Go, alpha.

But…

Khaos, go.

He drops his eyes, his whole body wilting with disappointment and what smells suspiciously like guilt.

I turn back to dealing with Casey. Khaos can wait.

We have to get her and get out.

That’s what we need to do. It’s simple, and yet, I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those impossible tasks.

Angel and Khaos disappear, but Hazard follows me, letting out unhappy grumbles as he goes.

Hazard and I race through the streets, but where her scent splits, we pause. He follows it, so I continue to the car.

I’m almost there when a sound I’ve never heard before but recognise instantly bursts into the air. Casey’s cries terrify me. I race around the building, but there’s no entrance. I can hear her. My blood pounds. A trash can crashes, and she lets out another sharp cry.

I’m frantic, uncaring if I get seen. She’s here somewhere. I need to find her. Casey is hurt; I can smell her blood. Oh, god. What if I’m too late? There’s another cry.

It’s higher than the others and filled with pain. It sends chills through my body.

It’s cut off, and that scares me more.

Casey!

No.

I run and find an entrance to the alley. I race down it and around the corner. The monster in front of her is huge and the most wolf-like shifter I’ve ever seen. He’s human at the moment, but one hand has enclosed her entire throat. He’s got a body like a body builder, but his face is cruel and harsh. His clothes are filthy, and I smell old and fresh blood coming from him. His cock is hard and bulging obscenely against his jeans.

She looks like a rag doll in his grip, helpless against him. Her face is white, but bruises are already forming. She mouths something but no sound comes out.

How the hell does she even have a chance?

She could never have fought off a beast like this.

I let out a growl of challenge. His eyes find me right away. I know I don’t have the strength to fight him off, not in a space this small.

If I can give her enough time to escape, then it’s worth it.

It’s all worth it.

I love her.

So, I’ll die here if it means getting her out.

I’m sorry.I send that one last thought to the pack, I hope it’s enough. They will understand.

I feel the rage from four distinct directions, and they come for me, for us.

They won’t make it.

The pack is coming, they’ll get Casey out, and I will buy them the time.

Casey

I watch out ofthe corner of my eye, waiting to see if any of his wolves are loitering around. Jonas is much crueler when he has an audience.
