The story was a bloody one. Lots of people died. But the alpha and his omega disappeared from the field of battle when a rival pack had come to destroy them. They were never seen again, but their bodies weren’t among the dead either. It’s a warning about how dangerous an omega can be and the lengths her alpha will go to to protect her. Two wolves against a pack. The pack didn’t survive.
I stare at the overhang, thinking about the smell, thinking about what it means. Wondering how a human would have the scent of an omega wolf and not have a wolf.
Suspicion rises, and I look up at the sky. I can only see a few stars through the trees.
“Omegas attract the worst fortune. You will rarely find anyone more traumatised by a world that hates them than an omega. They are fearsome in battle, terrifying, but the most beautiful and graceful creatures you’ve ever seen,” My father whispers.
“What should I do if I see one?”
“You should kneel, my son. Kneel, and hope she honours you.”
I shake my head. There’s no way. I will never kneel.
But just in case, I walk back to the cabin, determined to watch this woman carefully. She will show who she truly is, eventually. Either enemy or ally.
Omega or just another human whore.
And…if she proves to be the latter…well, not even Hazard will be able to stop me slitting her damn throat.

I follow Riot aroundand snarl at the saleswoman who tries to flutter to his side. I swear, she’s got hearts in her eyes. It’s been the same everywhere we’ve gone. The town doesn’t know what hit it. He charms women, men, and children with an easy smile and his whiskey-soaked voice.
He’s too damn pretty to be allowed out.
I am totally not jealous, not at all.
It’s been four hours, three more hours than I’ve ever spent in this town shopping, but somehow, this alpha knows not just how to spend money, but how to bring humans to their knees with just an arched brow and a smile that makes me want to crawl to him on my belly.
Not. Freaking. Jealous.
I’m carrying around too many bags. Just the sheer volume of clothes we’ve purchased has made my head spin. At the third shop, he’d bullied me into trying on some clothes and told the sales clerk to burn mine. She had tittered at him while I cussed him out.
It didn’t make a speck of difference. So, now I’m wearing jeans so tight that if I hadn’t been the one to put them on, I’d have thought they were painted on my body. Underwear that is little more than lace on a string, a bra that has no practical support at all and itches like crazy. A top six inches too short and three sizes too tight, and I have a brand new leather jacket over that that hugs me like a glove.
Every curve I’ve been trying to hide, every mask I’ve deliberately cultivated is gone. I’m exposed, and he’s smiling like he knew what I was doing all along. I can’t even tell him to stop without explaining why.
How do I explain what I am?
Would they think differently of me if they knew I was the princess without a wolf, the pack reject, the joke? Nothing but a breeder.
Riot turns on the street corner and sees I’ve fallen behind; his lips twist with easy amusement. As soon as I catch up, he puts an arm around me. I’m almost too tired to care, but he’s like warmth and…no, he’s sexy, and I’m human. My body is reacting the way any red-blooded person would in close proximity to him. He guides me into a new store.
I take one look and turn, but he grips my hips and drags me back.
“No!” I protest, struggling, but my arms are full, and he’s not even using any strength to stop my escape.
“Behave yourself, and you’ll get a reward,” he purrs into my ear.
I melt. The saleslady, who is trying really hard not to hear, melts. The whole damn world melts.
He turns and flashes a charming smile to the poor girl, while I’m still standing there trying to remember how to breathe. “We’re going to need five evening gowns. One in red, black, white, silver, and bronze.”
The girl coos, and why wouldn’t she? The alpha is god-level hot, and he’s spending a fortune; it’s the day of her life. “Um, any particular style?”
I look around the store, at all the gowns, glitter, feathers, sequins, taffeta. Dresses that would be useless to me up on the mountain. Why am I letting him do this?
Because he’s a force, and I have no idea how to stop him.
