She loved the feel of his mouth against hers, loved how he always took control of the kiss.He broke off the kiss, brushing away the hair from her forehead.
“You’re so beautiful.”
“You make me feel beautiful.”
“Good” Ares skimmed his lips down between her cleavage making her hips jolt again, and he took her nipple in his mouth.
She exhaled, the flutters of his tongue setting off a new surge of pleasure through her veins.
His phone ringing broke the intimate silence.Ares lifted his head from her nipple.“Got to take this.Sorry.”
Josie propped herself up, watching as he found his phone and admired his chiselled back as he strode out of the room.
Her head felt heavy with everything that he made her feel tonight, leaving her in this heightened pleasure induced state. It was a feeling that kept her eager for whatever Ares had in store for her next.
But the minute he came back into the room and she saw the drawn expression on his face, her heart sank.
“I’m sorry.Obligations call.”
“I understand.”She choked out the words, but unfairly she seethed inside. He warned her that his brother came first, but could she actually accept it?This night had been a web of intimacy so pure and thick she wanted to stay in its strands forever. The crash out of it hit her hard.
“You could stay here.I don’t expect this to take long.”Ares already had his pants back on and was walking toward his closet.
“No, it’s okay.”Her voice wobbled, but she smiled.
She stood, riffled through her clothes and got dressed. She strode to the bathroom and quickly packed up her toiletries, willing herself not to cry.
“I’m sorry, this isn’t how I wanted the evening to end,” Ares rubbed her arms.
She nodded, too choked up to say anything.
He had to take care of whatever it was he did, and he had warned her that this was part of being with him.She could accept that, she was sure she could, but what she didn’t want was to be caught in an endless loop of leaving and making up.
She wanted to be with this charming, beautiful man.He made her feel so cared for. She’d never experienced this kind of connection with anyone else. But he had to stop apologizing for something that was out of his control.
Nope, she would not be some whiny girl.
“It’s fine, nothing to make up for.”Somehow the words got out of her mouth past the lump in her throat.
“I’ll at least show you how sorry I am,” Ares took her bag.Josie took one last look around the palatial bedroom and told herself this wasn’t the end.
Walking downstairs, she felt Ares’s impatience and tried to quicken her steps.“No rush.”
She wondered if he meant it.He had transformed from the caring lover to the laser focused business CEO.He had on a new crisp blue shirt and a blazer that looked expensive.
Beside him, she was a complete mess, who looked like she had been tumbling in bed.
Outside, the snap in the air took her breath away. She shivered, and Ares wrapped an arm around her all the way to her side of the car.
He got in, pressed a few buttons, immediate warmth spreading against her back.“Thanks.”
“I’ll do anything for you, Josie.”He placed his hand on her thigh and she liked how it felt there, warm and comforting, but her heart felt ripped in shreds.
Stop it, you’re being ridiculous.
Through the drive back, the silence hung heavy in the air between them as her thoughts spun. What the hell was she doing with this man?She didn’t belong with him. They were too different and every time it seemed to grow to the next level between them, something kept them apart. But the memory of being in his ropes, how secure and tight they felt against her skin, making her feel comfortable in a way she had never experienced fluttered across her sprawling thoughts.
“I’m going to walk you in.”
