A woman with her husky interrupted them, holding out a pen and a notebook. “Hey, you’re Cole Arthur. Would you mind signing this?”
Cole flashed a smile. “Not at all.” He scribbled his name and handed the woman back her pen. “Have a nice day, now.”
“That’s nice you gave her an autograph,” Ivy commented.
“Yeah, I got to keep the fans happy,” Cole said.
“Where are we going?” Ivy asked as he unlocked the doors.
“I’ll get us there, don’t worry.”
As she was going to text Gabe, she saw that she had a text from Julien asking about the profiles he wanted.
“Whoa.” Ivy held onto the grab bar.
“I need to get you to him. You’re always good for him, Ivy. You make him calm down.”
“I try,” Ivy mumbled. “Cole, I think you’re going a little fast. This isn’t the way to your dad’s.”
“Leave the driving to me. And I never said he was at my dad’s.” His lips pressed into a thin line, and Ivy stared out the window. Cole sped up.
“Cole, where are we going? This is the turn for the airport.”
“Just relax, Ivy. Everything is going to be fine. I got to get Gabe on this job.”
“What are you talking about?”
“The job for Chantal’s father. I can’t chance this not working. She comes with good connections, you know? I’ve got to look out for myself.”
“Gabe seems pretty determined to go do this job.”
“Unless you talk him out of it. Do you know we had to change our name from your damn post? No one would join after that post! This is a multi-billion dollar business. It took us months to recruit enough ex-military men.”
“Cole! You can’t be serious. These guys are bad news. My post couldn’t have caused that much damage.”
“It did.” Cole sneered at her.
She shook her head. This was going too far. She had lost everything because of that post, and everyone had blamed her. But it wasn’t her fault; this shady company was.
“These guys are money, Ivy. I’m going to get rich. And either my brother is the soldier he claims to be, or he isn’t.”
Her stomach dropped. “What are you doing to me?”
Gabe pulled up, off to the private airport, braking hard by a hangar.
“Getting you out of the way, fat bitch. Sorry but you’re not going to ruin my plans this time.”
“Cole!”
Ivy tried kicking at him, but Cole was strong. He dragged her across to the hangar. She screamed. She kicked, and she felt hot tears spill down her face.
“You’re not my problem anymore. Gabe could have done so much better than you. Maybe when this is over, and you’ve got some sense beaten into you, I’ll come back for you.” The door to the hangar opened. He pushed her so hard she stumbled, falling.
The cold concrete ground was smooth under her cheek. She screamed as the hangar door shuttered to a close.
This sucked. She heaved a sob and blinked away the tears. No, she wasn’t going to let this happen.
Rage boiled in her at Gabe.
