“What can I do for you?” his rich voice purred.
“I’ve decided to take the position. I would love to be the co-host ofSpeak Darkly.”
“Fantastic, Ivy. I’m going to email you a contract, and then I need a bio and for you to give me five pitches for the first five shows. I have a rough layout, but I want to hear your ideas. Let’s meet in a couple of days. Let me know if you have questions. Looking forward to working with you.”
“Thanks, Julien.”
Satisfied, Ivy scrolled to the message Alice sent her and just to put another resume out there, she followed up with Alice’s contact. If this radio show sex columnist gig didn’t happen, she wanted a back–up plan.
Logging into her messages again, she saw Emery had sent her a link to a posting in Edmonton. And because she was on a roll, she fired off her resume to that one, knowing she wouldn’t get the senior executive position advertised. And she blocked the troll. Throwing her phone in her bag, she grinned, eager to tell Gabe the news.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN – GABE
“What the hell is this?” Fury rolled through his veins.
Ares Montague crossed his arms over his chest, leaning against the windows of the sleek black cave-like office of Xander Montague, as his brother glared at him from across the desk.
“Something we should have done long ago. No more moonlighting. With us getting rid of the bodyguard side of the business, Team Stealth are all the assets we have in terms of personal security, and we haven’t launched a recruitment campaign yet.”
“Team Stealth isn’t personal security; your reasoning is flimsy.”
“Yeah, I know, but I want you to sign the fucking paper, and it’s the best I could come up with for now.”
“So I have to sign this if I want to stay on the payroll?” Gabe dropped the thick bound contract on the desk.
“Yes.” Xander raised an eyebrow at him.
Gabe rocked back and forth in his chair. Xander was downright scary with his‘I can see right through you’look.
“Okay, so when is the next job?”
“Not so fast. You need to go see Dr. Laktur first,” Ares said.
“What?”
“Yeah, we’re trying to be concerned about everyone’s mental health so we don’t burn through our assets.”
“Besides, I looked back at the calendar, and I should have pulled you sooner,” Xander said.
“Is this because I fell asleep on Harper’s couch?” Gabe’s stomach twisted, thinking about how he had guarded Harper and his friend Logan got hurt that night.
Xander snorted. “No. I talked to you about taking down time months ago, and you said okay, and then we needed you in, so this is for both of us to be committed.”
“We think you overworked yourself in the summer,” Ares said.
“Quinn wasn’t around, and you said go.”
“And now I am saying bench. After a month of sessions with Dr. Laktur, you’re back in when she gives you the all-clear.”
“But in the meantime, I can’t work?” Gabe thumped the wall with his fist.
“You got it,” Xander said.
“Did you pull this with Quinn?”
Ares’s mouth quirked. “You can ask him. I hear you and Ivy are back together. Go spend time with her. Get your head straight.”
Gabe stood up, threw his chair back and paced back in front of the desk. “This sucks. I feel ready. You trust me, right? That’s why I’m on Team Stealth.”
