“Harper, you fought. You should be proud of yourself,” Janette said in her no-nonsense way.
Harper shook her head. It didn’t matter how much Xander tried to protect her, she couldn’t escape who she was. Being related to criminals would never go away. She glanced up as Logan entered the kitchen.
“Hey, Finn. Thanks for holding the place down, Janette.” His gaze settled on Harper. “Come here, darling.”
And Logan’s powerful arms were around her and the plane of his hard chest against her cheek. Harper wept, uncontrollable big gulping sobs.
“I’m here, Harper. I’m here.” Logan stroked her hair and held her close.
It felt so good to be in his arms, to breathe in his outdoorsy scent, to feel the warmth of his body against hers.
Logan said goodbye to the bodyguards and locked the door. “Come on, let’s go to bed.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN - LOGAN
“Youdon’thavetolook after me. I can go,” Harper said.
“Go where, Kitten? You belong here with me.” Logan stroked her hair and felt her tremble against him.
“It’s never going to end. You can’t look after me. My family will find me wherever I go, no matter how much security I have. You don’t want this life Logan,” Harper said.
“And what life is that?” He softly kissed her lips.
“A life of looking over your shoulder, of having to run because they found me again. I can’t ask you to live like some criminal on the run.”
Logan wiped away a tear with his thumb.
“You don’t get to tell me the life I want, Harper. You can trust me to keep you safe. We’ll figure this out. Right now, we know nothing about the man who attacked you. We don’t know who he is or how he found you or what he wants.”
Shaking her head, harper sat upright, swinging her legs to the floor, and paced. “I know. That accent is the one of my childhood. That means they have found me! And I care about you too much to risk you. I know you’re skilled, but you have never faced this before.”
“Harper, you listen to me.” Logan put his hands on her shoulders and stilled her movement. “I’m not scared of your family. I don’t care how mean they are or how far-reaching they are. I can keep you safe, and I don’t care what life throws at us. As long as you’re in my life, I have everything I need.” Logan captured her lips, breathing in her exhale, feeling the tension leave her body. He kissed her until her he felt her sag against him.
“But what if they come back? What if they never give up looking for me? What if they take me? I can’t go back, Logan. I can’t.” Harper trembled against him.
He nibbled her ear gently; he traced her eyebrows with his fingertips. “Shush. I said I will take care of you, and I will. There is no more discussion of you leaving, or you telling me I can’t be part of your life. No more words about what-ifs, Kitten.” Logan kissed her hard, sealing his dominant intent. Her arms came around his neck, she urged him on.
“Is that how it is?” Logan asked.
“You made me stop thinking for a moment,” Harper said.
“Let’s see if we can make it two.” Logan kissed her, hard, trying to drown out her thoughts, wanting to take all her fears, wanting to absorb them into himself. He could handle this, and he wanted to show her he could. God, how soft she was under his rough hands. He breathed in her sweet scent, between her shoulder blade and her neck, trailing kisses down her collarbone. Deftly, he lifted her top and kissed her collarbone, trailing soft kisses over her lilac-clad breasts. “Free these for me, Kitten,” Logan said, his thumbs caressing her nipples through the lacy fabric. He loved how sweetly she moaned as he applied more pressure. He removed his touch and sat against the headboard. With a small smile, Harper unclasped her bra, and Logan flicked a lush nipple. “Cup them for me,” he said, leaning forward.
She did, sliding onto her knees. He leaned down, his hands encircling her waist, and sucked her nipple, hard. Harper’s hands moved to his shoulders and her moans urged him to keep his pace.
He didn’t let go until her sweet nipple was swollen red. And then he took the other one hard into his mouth as Harper moaned. He could feel her anticipation, her eagerness to let him have his way.
She wanted to be dominated. It was in how her body swayed towards him, how she yipped as he bit down, and how the pressure of her fingertips dug into his shoulders firmly as she felt him lift off.
“Stay right there,” Logan said.
“I could undress you?” Harper said.
Logan grinned. His belt buckle came out with a flourish, then his slacks hit the floor and his T-shirt was over his head in an instant. “If you can be as quick as me.”
Logan kissed her softly and noticed her eyes flicked away. “Kitten, what is it?”
She shook her head and pressed herself to him. Her breasts on his chest felt so good, her soft lips on him made him lose his resolve.
