We need to take care of her.

Logan glanced at theGPS before turning onto the bridge.

“We’re so happy you’re all right, Angel.”

“I didn’t know who had taken me. I thought it was my family,” Harper whispered.

“And we were out of our minds with worry,” Xander said gently.

“I’m sorry.” Xander wrapped an arm around her. “What matters is you are safe with us.” “Where youbelong,” Logan said. He said it for Xander. Logan only hoped Xander saw Harper belonged with both of them because the three of them worked. He loved Harper and he liked having Xander around. He was more than a friend, more than a brother. He was the other half of Harper’s heart.

As he drove into the neighbourhood brimming with stately mansions, he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. Did all this wealth make him uncomfortable?

Yeah, a little bit.

“This is your house?” The gates swung open, onto the huge estate. Logan whistled.

“Yeah,” Xander said.

Logan rolled onto the stone driveway, past a small house, Harper’s apartment, he guessed, past a fountain in the courtyard.

“Go around the back. The doctor is waiting for us,” Xander said.

Logan did as instructed. He couldn’t give Harperthis. He could keep a roof over her head and take her on a vacation or two, but this was so outlandish, that Logan couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He didn’t compare to Xander. Why would Harper want him?

A small-frame woman with short hair was leaning against her car. “Dr. Redden, thank you for coming,” Xander said.

“Not a problem. Harper, let’s get you inside and checked out. How are you feeling?”

“I’m okay. I’m just tired and shaky.”

Xander took her arm. Logan took it all in, the beautiful landscaping, the stone patio under a pergola, and an entire outdoor kitchen. “Wow. Why do you ever leave here?”

Xander smiled slightly but didn’t answer.

Inside, the doors opened to the chef’s kitchen, high ceilings, and sleek modern finishes in black and white and gold palettes. Logan followed down a sprawling hallway, right to a bedroom door.

“Harper, why don’t you change into something comfortable, and I’ll be in when you call me?” the doctor suggested.

“I’ll help you,” Logan said.

“Anything you need, Harper, you let me know,” Xander said.

“I can manage.” Harper gave them both a small smile.

“You guys sit tight. I’ll talk to you soon.” The doctor gave them a look.

Logan followed Xander back to the kitchen.

“Drink?” Xander offered, going to a cabinet at the side of the counter.

“Whatever you’re having.”

Xander poured him a deep amber scotch. They clinked glasses, and Logan tossed it back, revelling in the buttery feel as it glided down his throat.

“That’s marginally better,” Xander said.

“Agreed.” Logan sighed. “So that girl needs boundaries.”
