“We got you, Kitten.”
“I was so scared,” Harper said, she rubbed her wrists, which had duct tape on them. Xander held her hand between his and without saying anything removed the tape from her. Logan rubbed her wrist, taking it in his hands.
“I hate they had their hands on you. Did they hurt you?” Logan said.
The pain on Xander’s face made his stomach lurch. It was exactly how he was feeling.
“No. Janette’s self-defence training came into play.”
“I’m so proud of you, Angel.”
A police car pulled up next to the curb and two officers climbed out, making their way over to them.
Xander rubbed Harper’s back, whispered in her ear, “Let me take care of this,” and then stretched out a hand to the first officer.
“Hello officers,” Xander said.
“We were told we’d find you here. We’re going to take Mr. Densen into custody, but we need a statement.”
Xander levelled a glare at them. “You can direct all questions regarding Miss Blake to my lawyer. She’s expecting your call,” Xander said, holding out a business card.
The police officers exchanged a look with each other, and Logan could feel their annoyance. Xander stared them down, not budging.
“As you can see, Miss. Blake is fine. Tell them, Harper.”
“Yes, I had a scare, but I am fine. I just want to go home.”
Logan stared, shaking his head. What would it be like to have that kind of power? He pulled Harper tight against him. “Let’s get going, Kitten.”
“Okay, Mr. Montague. Your lawyer will hear from us.”
Xander turned to Logan as the police car drove into the garage.
“My lawyer can hold them off, at least for tonight. They’ll want to talk to her eventually, though.” “It’s fine, Xander. I feel okay and Theo can’t get away with what he did tonight, whatever his plan was. Thank god you guys came.”
“I’ve arranged for Dr. Redden to meet us at the house, and Fleur is going to drop by tonight.”
“No, it’s okay, you don’t have to—” Harper broke off as Xander glared at her.
“Oh, Kitten, you have no idea what we have to do. We figured it would be easier for you not to go to the hospital, but you need to be checked over, and Xander’s right, you need to talk to someone about this.”
Harper shook her head. Logan sighed. Stubborn woman.
“Yes, you do, Angel,” Xander said, taking her hands in his. “This might bring back unpleasant memories, and I want you to touch base with support right away. You have a show to get ready for, I heard.”
She dipped her head, hiding her face.
“Oh yes, Kitten, we’ll talk about that, too.”
Erik pulled up in an SUV and jumped out. “Hey. I can drive you home if you want.”
“Thanks, Erik, we’re okay,” Xander said.
“Yeah. We got it.”
Erik saluted. “Harper, take care of yourself, or let these two do it.”
Logan drove while Xander sat with her in the back, holding her hand. Logan met Xander’s eyes in the mirror.
