“Hana’s granddad was a volunteer firefighter. I’ll make sure it’s in his name.”

Xander nodded. “Now I don’t get to give my speech.”

“You know, this is a rare appearance by the dark prince of the business world. I’m sure I could tell them to stop serving.”

Xander gave him the finger, and he laughed.

Donating might have saved his boss from giving a speech, but it kept him away from Harper because everyone in the entire room came over and shook his hand after the dessert plates were cleared. A few women asked him to dance and, not wanting to say no, he danced with every one of them. Just as he was going to scoop Harper onto the floor, his cell rang.

Good old Uncle Ed, calling to ream him out.

“What were you thinking?” Edwin shouted.

“That you’re going to need the publicity when you go public with moving all manufacturing overseas. Can you even use ‘Canada’ in your name, anymore?”

Edwin wasn’t the brightest, just the meanest, and he would only do something that cost him money if it benefited him. Bonus, if it was for the torture of other people.

“Fine. You make sure it’s in Stewart’s name, and I want to see you here by the end of the month. It’s time for you to come and actually work for a living if you don’t want Paige to live out her golden years in poverty, or Hana to lose her spot at university. It’s your choice.”

Logan gritted his teeth and breathed through his nose. He imagined crushing Ed’s neck in his hands. He could easily take the weasel. Ed thought all he did was teach rock climbing. He didn’t have a clue that he worked for Axis Management.

“Hear you loud and clear,” Logan said.

“Good.” Ed clicked off.

Logan took a steadying breath before heading back inside. He was boiling on the inside but made sure not to show his anger. He sighed, seeing a tall, board-shouldered man with dark hair approach Xander’s table.

“Mr. Montague? I’m sorry to bother you, I’m Elijah Weber. My old man owns a sod company—”

Xander nodded. “Better Lawns, yes. Your father is in the news nearly as often as I am.”

Logan laughed. “For different reasons. How is he feeling these days?”

“Better, thanks,” Elijah said, giving Logan a stare.

Ace Weber made the news because he’d started a dog rescue facility on the side and reportedly gave over half his earnings away each year. The man recently got into a horseback-riding accident.

“I wanted to come over and ask if the rumours were true. Do you playOutriders? You might know me as Zolt182.”

“Come sit down here,” Xander said, his face lit up.

“Harper, would you like to dance?”

Harper looked at Xander. “I have Carli coming in half an hour.”

“Call her and make it an hour. I’m talking,” Xander said.

“Okay, done,” Harper said, putting her phone down on the table. “Take me for a spin, Logan.”

“Yeah, let’s do it, pretty girl.” He offered his arm to her, and her long fingers gripped his biceps. He guided her to the dance floor as the DJ played a slow beat.

Her green eyes met his. Her cheeks flushed, and he wanted her in his bed with a ferocity he’d never experienced before.

“I’ve wanted you in my arms all night,” Logan said.

He placed his hand on her back, pulling her close to him. She smiled, exposing the slight dimples in her cheeks.

“You already showed me your moves. Quite impressive Mr. Marrock.”
