“I’ve been on a few dates with Logan,” Harper blurted out. She usually kept to herself but the look on her friend’s face was worth it.
“Ew! Don’t want to hear this,” Kayleigh said, covering her ears.
“I do! Logan is yummy,” Gardenia said.
“He is not! Eww,” Kayleigh sshook her head.
Gardenia’s phone buzzed. “Food’s here.”
“I’ll get it,” Harper volunteered, wanting a moment away from them before answering any more of their questions. This, she told herself, is normal. This is what women my age do. Sit around and eat Chinese food and talk about men. Completely normal.
She opened the door, paid the delivery person, and took the food to the counter.
“Do you think you and Logan will get serious?”
“It must kill Xander to see you two together,” Kayleigh said, grabbing plates.
“I don’t know. Things have been a little tense between Xander and me. You’re having lunch with him tomorrow, Kayleigh, maybe you could bring it up?” Harper shook her head, wondering what was wrong with her. She didn’t need Kayleigh to tell her that Xander’s heart was crushed.
“Maybe I will,” Kayleigh said. “Maybe I could bring up working at Axis Management.”
“No!” Gardenia and Harper said in unison.
“It’s very stressful,” Gardenia added.
“You wouldhateit. Remember how much math there is?” Harper said.
Kayleigh’s face crumpled for a moment, and then she shrugged. “You’re right. I want to know what happened to Xander’s former girlfriend. It’s very hush-hush whatever went down with him and Olivia.”
Harper bit her lip. She had just come into Xander’s life as he’d broken off with Olivia and it was like the cloud over him got darker when their relationship ended. Why Xander wouldn’t pursue a relationship had a lot to do with his former one.
“Put your journalistic skills to the test, Kayleigh. See if you can get Xander to tell you something,” Gardenia said.
“I will.” Kayleigh’s face set in a line of determination.
“What about you, Gardenia? Seeing anyone new?” Harper asked.
Gardenia shook her head. “My last date was so boring. He also didn’t believe me when I said I worked for Axis Management. It’s like people expect us to be celebrities because some of our clients are.”
“You’ll find someone.” Kayleigh said.
“What about you, Kayleigh?”
“Nope. I’m too busy working or not working now, I guess. I don’t want to be with anyone.”
“Anyone on Team Stealth that interests you?” Gardenia asked with a smirk.
“Hey! Those guys are practically my brothers, all of them, you know.”
“Except for Erik,” Harper said.
Kayleigh glared at her and she raised her hands. “Hey, I’m just teasing.”
“Erik is one wicked guy I wouldn’t want anywhere near me.”
“I would be happy if any of them looked at me as if I was more than a background person,” Gardenia said.
Harper patted her friend’s shoulder and shook her head. “Those guys are a lot, anyway.”
