“Yes, Sir!” Harper cried out the words. Her body rippled as the pleasure rolled through her. Nothing was more beautiful than this woman, right here, falling apart for him. She gripped his shoulders hard.

Still stroking her, Logan gritted his teeth, feeling the weight in his balls as he sank to his hilt. Pinpricks of heat danced behind his eyes as he let go and ejaculated in one hot stream, deep within her.

Easing her down to bed, he slid out of her, left her and disposed of the condom, then came back to her. He swept the hair off her shoulder, bent, and pressed a kiss to her soft mouth.

“You’re so damn gorgeous,” He wrapped an arm around her, bringing them against the pillows.

“So are you, Sir.” Harper reached for him, her voice sultry with desire.

Logan kissed her forehead and curled her into his body.

“Sleep, now, Kitten,” he said. He traced her hipbone, and nuzzled into her, knowing he was a lucky bastard.

The thump, thump, immediately sent hyperawareness through his veins. He reached over, flicking on the table sidelight. “Stay here Kitten, don’t come out no matter what.”

Harper, looking pale with fright, nodded. He kissed her mouth, driving reassurance into her. “It’s nothing I can’t handle.”

Logan threw on a pair of shorts and a T-shirt and made his way to the pounding door. He opened it and cursed. Being a search and rescue tech, he had seen stuff that still gave him nightmares, and working for Axis Management a piece of his soul had been left in the Baskin Valley. But none of that carried the absolute purity of loathing for the short, balding man who was leaning against his doorframe.

“Ed, what do you want?” Logan crossed his arms over his chest and stepped into the doorway. The sight of this man always made his mouth taste like ash.

“What I want is for my company to increase a profit by twenty-five percent. You were right with the donation to the firefighter’s charity. It brought a lot of publicity,” Edwin slurred. “And now I need another publicity stunt. I want you at the board of directors’ dinner in two weeks, Logan, to announce your permanent position.”

“I told you I would be there.” He glared at the pitiful man.

“I’m just checking.” He leaned to the right, peering beyond Logan into the condo. “You got a girl back there?”

Logan wanted to wrap his hands around his uncle’s throat and squeeze. Instead, he asked, “Do I need to call you a cab?”

“No, I got a driver. Remember, two weeks or Paige and Hana are cut off... for good.” Edwin jabbed at his chest and every one of Logan’s muscles tightened.

Sneering, he bent into his uncle’s face. “Next time call.”

“I wanted to surprise you.” But Ed waved and stumbled down the hallway. Logan stepped out into the hall, making sure the man got on the elevator.

As soon as he was, he picked up his phone and called Hana, wanting to check in with her, despite the hour. “Hey, call me as soon as you’re up.”

Pumped up from that encounter, Logan knew he wasn’t going to sleep. Back in his room, Harper was sitting with her legs tucked under her.

”Sorry about that.” Logan kissed her cheek.

“Is everything okay?”

“Edwin showed up. He’s worried I’ll back down on my word to join the company.”

“Logan, you always keep your word.” Harper rubbed his shoulders and Logan caught her hand, kissing her fingers. Her belief in him made his heart swell. No other woman had ever given him the steadiness she had. She made him want to put up a white picket fence.

“Ed made me this offer right after the mission to rescue Mulberry. You know how that went. I couldn’t leave the guys like that, and I didn’t want to say goodbye to Axis Management. I needed another job to go well.”

“Oh, Logan. Jordan’s death affected everyone.”

“Yeah. When Quinn’s head was too fucked up to see straight, Xander put me on that archeologist job, remember?”

Harper nodded. Axis Management went where others didn’t. They cleaned up messes and protected and rescued people. When Xander sent Logan, Gabe, and Nick to the Middle East to retrieve a renowned archaeologist, who wasn’t there for legal purposes, it had been the mission he needed, the one that proved to him he could still do this and that he didn’t want to leave the adrenaline charge that being an operative with Axis Management gave him.

“Yes, Ida Kavanagh. You guys were dark for three days. I was worried.”

He stroked her jawline gently with his finger. “The day after I got back, Edwin started hounding me to go work for SolCan. I had hedged him off until then, but I knew it was a running clock. When I told Xander, he advised me that I was looking at this all wrong. I could go work for Ed and pretend to kiss his ass—while I’m there, eventually oust him and gain control of the finances. I was too angry with Edwin and the hell he made Hana’s life, to see the solution.” Logan shrugged. “Xander reads people. That’s the magic sauce of Axis Management.” He slung an arm around her, bringing her close. He had been unsure why he was telling her all this at first, but now he knew.
