She hadn’t meant to let that slip. She snuggled against Logan’s chest, kissing his neck, trying to distract him.
His fingers trailed the side of her face. “I didn’t realize you’ve known Xander that long. Why would he have that much say in your life?”
There wasn’t going to be an easy way out of this. His tone was thick with command. She pressed her body against the hard plane of his chest, kissing his lips. He tugged on her hair.
“Kitten...” he growled.
She couldn’t give him everything, but she could share this. Her heart raced wildly.
“Xander helped me out of my unpleasant situation. I have lived with Xander and Ares since I was sixteen,” she said.
She held her breath as Logan’s hand stopped stroking her hair.
“Sixteen, Christ,” he said.
“There’s been nothing sexual about it. I mean, I might have wished for it, but he’s been nothing but a gentleman to me, a protector, an older brother.”
“You don’t wish for something sexual with your older brother,” Logan said.
“No, that came later, when I was of age, I swear. And still, nothing happened. He doesn’t notice me,” Harper said.
“Kitten, he notices you,” Logan said. “And now he’s asked you on a date and you trust him. He knows everything about you, and you won’t let me in.”
“I’m trying, Logan,” Harper said, running her hand along his jaw. “It’s difficult for me. I do trust you! I have had little practice talking about what happened to me, so it’s hard. Would it be better if I didn’t go on the date with Xander?”
Her stomach twisted in a knot at the thought of cancelling on Xander, but she did want to show Logan she was serious, she wanted him. She loved being with him, and she was unconvinced Xander’s invitation was a date.
“I’m not being fair. I asked you to talk about your past and when you did, I overreacted. Come here, Kitten,” he said, kissing her head. “Go to the symphony, but just know I’m here for you and I want more than a few dates.”
His heated gaze sent a thrill through her, and she snuggled next to him, in moments feeling her whole body relax into a deep sleep.
It took a moment for her to realize where she was in the semi-dark. A loud buzzer had stirred her from her dreams. Logan was talking into his phone in the doorway of the bedroom.
“Yes? Okay, be there in twenty,” he said.
“Morning,” Harper murmured.
“That was Xander, calling Team Stealth in, telling me to grab my go bag and get in there. Going to shower,” he said, pressing a kiss on her mouth.
“I better get up too,” Harper said, and on cue, she heard the trill of her phone from the living room. Walking through naked, Harper found her purse and fished out her phone.
“Sorry to wake you, Angel, but I need you this morning. Sending Team Stealth out on a job.” Xander’s silky voice brought her mind back to reality.
“Okay. I’ll be in soon,” she said. “What do you need?”
“Tech Team is going to set up for us. Cancel all appointments for today. I want the new bodyguards in my office this afternoon,” Xander said.
“Okay, you got it,” Harper said.
“Angel, where are you? I noticed you weren’t at home this morning.”
“I’m with Logan,” she whispered.
“See you both soon,” Xander said after a long pause. His tone was dry, and Harper knew he was holding back.
A weird wave of guilt crashed through her, but she knew she wasn’t doing anything wrong.
