“We’ll make sure he doesn’t lift heavy things,” Xander grumbled.

“Even if we have to tie him down.” Harper giggled.

Xander took her hand and if he wasn’t so annoyed by the white-hot pain flaring through his insides, he would have high-fived them.

He raised an eyebrow at her, the doctor threw her hands up and left with a smile.

“I called your mom. And Fiona,” Quinn said from the doorframe.

“Wish you hadn’t. I don’t want to worry them.”

“Because she can check in on you, even from Boston,” his best friend said, his arms crossed in front of his chest.

“We’ll keep an eye on him,” Harper said. “He won’t need his mom.”

“Impossible, all of you,” Quinn said. “Need a hand there?”

“Fuck off,” Logan said. He lifted himself up, but his friends don’t listen. Quinn came over, taking his arm and Xander grabbed his other one.

“They suggest a wheelchair for a reason, you know, it’s their policy. You could just use it,” Harper said.

“Feeling mouthy today, are we?” Logan said.

Harper blushed and Xander raised an eyebrow.

“The relief she feels at seeing you in one piece is making her forget her place.”

“We’ll remind her,” Logan grunted, as he took a few more steps. Damn, it felt like a workout.

Xander glanced away from him and Logan bit the inside of his lip. Why did the man have to be stubborn? They made a perfect trio and Xander belonged with them.

Slowly and with a lot of mumbled cursing, they got outside of the hospital. Logan titled his face to the sun, it felt so good.

“Want to sit down over on the picnic table? You need to catch your breath,” Xander said.

“Just for a moment,” Logan mumbled. He and Quinn eased him down to the bench, Logan felt sweat on his forehead and wiped it away.

“How are you?” Harper asked. Her eyes were filled with worry and he took her hands in his.

“It hurts but I’ll be fine.”

“You can take the pain meds they gave you,” Xander said.

“You know I won’t.”

Xander shook his head. “Stubborn mofo.”

“You’re one to talk.”

“Can we make him take the pain meds?” Harper asked.

Xander smiled. “Yeah, I think we can find a way. I’ll blast goth punk until he agrees.”

Harper giggled. “I’ll make him watch reruns of Swan Lake.”

They grinned at each other like loons and Logan shook his head. They fit so well together, the three of them.

“You guys can team up on me all you want but I am going to be fine in four weeks and payback is a bitch.”
