Violet looked up at me with the cutest pink flush on her cheeks. “You didn’t scare me. I just thought I was alone.”
“And that’s the alone-dancing you never share with the world?” I asked with a goofy grin on my face.
She bit her lip, looking absolutely adorable. “Wealldo it. Even if we don’t admit it.”
That made me think of other things wealldid without admitting them to the society around us. Like how I’d fisted my cock last night while I’d stared at her picture on the company website, coming with such a force that some of my load had flown three feet through the air. It had taken me fifteen minutes to clean up after that. If she only knew, she’d probably be mortified.
“Don’t worry, Violet. I dance when no one’s watching, too,” I rumbled.
She gave me a tiny smile, her embarrassment lifting. “But have you ever been busted by the maintenance man doing it at work?”
“There areworsethings I could have busted you doing.”
Oops. That might have been the wrong thing to say because she started to blush again. My gaze momentarily wandered to the generous swell at the top of her cardigan. Violet had one of those round, curvy bodies that revved my engines. Thick thighs. A big ass. And completely kissable tits.
“Anyway, don’t let me keep you from your work,” I told her as I wandered away and clocked out for my shift. The Von Renpels were sticklers for that since I was paid hourly instead of salary. Irefusedto be put on salary by them because I didn’t trust that they wouldn’t take advantage of it.
“What are you working on so late, anyway?” I asked as I headed back through the office, passing by her desk. She was already deeply engrossed in her project again.
“Oh, I’m just catching up on some of my work. I was tracking a discrepancy with the Bear Creek Lodge asset.”
I cocked my head. “Bear Creek? That’s mine.”
“What do you mean, yours?”
Shrugging a shoulder, I told her, “I’m in charge of the crew doing the remodeling out at the lodge. They’re independent contractors, but I work for the Von Renpels, at least for now.”
“Y-you do? I thought you were just the m—”
She shut her mouth fast, like she thought she’d been on the verge of saying something rude.
“You can say it. I’m not embarrassed about what I do. Maintenance man. It’s not a bad thing.”
Violet shook her head. “I wasn’t saying that. I just didn’t realize you work for Von Renpel Enterprises.”
“Technically, I don’t. I actually work for Rodney Von Renpel. He’s the main investor in this business. And for some reason he thinks it’s a better tax write-off if I work for him directly instead of for the corporation. I don’t rightly understand, but it hasn’t affected me poorly, so I don’t mind.”
Then I brought the subject back around. “But what was wrong with the lodge? Anything I should know about?”
She fidgeted with one of the buttons on her cardigan, while I tried not to think aboutallthe things I would do to her if she started unbuttoning it right in front of me.
Today she was wearing the light pink cardigan. It made her look like a tasty treat. Like a cotton-candy cutie. Although myfavoritewas the hot pink one I’d only seen her wear one time. It had been bright with shiny jewel-colored buttons. It had also been a little tighter than the others, showing off the intoxicating curve of her breast more than usual. I’d been waiting for her to wear it again formonths. Usually, Violet wore muted tones, and I got the feeling it was because she didn’t want to draw attention to herself.
She looked up at me thoughtfully. “I think they delivered the wrong vanities. The purchase order number doesn’t match.”
I nodded. “That explains it. I’d been wondering why they’d gone five-star on the bathroom sinks and nothing else.”
“Did you happen to save the delivery slip from the order? I haven’t seen it come through my inbox yet.”
“Yup. I signed for that delivery, and then he was trying to drive off without handing me a copy. I had to chase him down to get it. He’d been in a hurry to go before a storm hit. But I put it in your box.”
She looked at me curiously. “So you knew I handled your account?”
“Yup, sure did.”
Then I felt a shift as silence stretched between us. This is when my grandpa would say I should be doing a little peacock dance to get her attention. Instead, I just said, “If you want to come out and see the sinks, I could take you out there.”
