"Yeah," Deepa nodded. "Yeah, he doesn't like talking about it, but they were killed by werewolves."
"Jeeze," Sadie sighed. "I can't even imagine. No wonder he's eager to kill them all."
"Yeah, it’s all he’s ever talked about for as long as I've known him.
"I can imagine," Sadie grimaced.
"Well." Varn slapped his hands together to get rid of the crumbs. "I'm heading out. Early morning and all that."
"Yeah," Sadie nodded. "Same."
"Thanks for the beer," Deepa said.
"My pleasure," Varn said. "Catch you guys later."
"See you," Sadie waved, following after him.
Deepa watched them go, then glanced across the room in search of Parker.
Her gaze fell upon a cluster of blond men, quietly seated at a table towards the rear, partially obscured by shadows. Their fair faces and light complexions stood out in the subdued lighting.
A man in a white leather jacket locked eyes with her, sending a shiver down her spine.
He was handsome, in a terrifying sort of way. His short blond hair was styled to look messy, and his lips were plump and red.
But there was something wrong about him, and it wasn't just his creepy stare.
Werewolf, was Deepa's first thought, until she quickly brushed it away.
She was just being paranoid. There was no way that werewolves would dare visit a bar crawling with Infection Control officers.
"Where'd they go?" said Parker as he appeared before her, nursing two beers.
"They went home." She tore her gaze away from the strange man. "Had an early morning."
"Pussies," he grinned as he passed her a bottle.
"Thanks.” Deepa took a sip. "You okay?"
He snorted. "Fine. Why wouldn't I be?"
"Well, you were a little-"
"What? Angry because some girl wants to let the monsters run around loose? Please."
"Okay, okay. Don't bite my head off." Deepa took another sip of her beer. "I wasn't the one who said it."
Parker sighed, rubbing his face. "I'm sorry. It's been a long night."
"Yeah. I get it."
They lapsed into silence, drinking their beers as Deepa tried to ignore the table of men at the back of the room.
"Come on." Parker placed his bottle down. "Let's get out of here." He laced his fingers with Deepa's, leading her out of the bar.
The car park was empty, the sky cloudy as a cool breeze blew past them.
Parker pinned her against the side of his car, his lips pressing against hers.
