"Away from you!" Deepa yelled back.

Axel cursed under his breath and raced after her, catching up and matching her pace.

"What the fuck did I do to deserve this," he grumbled.

"What did you say?" Deepa hissed, her eyes narrowing.

"Nothing," Axel snapped, increasing his speed.

"You know, I could easily murder you right now."

"But you won't," Axel retorted. "Because if you could, I'd be dead already."

Deepa's mouth opened and closed, but no sound came out.

"Look," Axel began. "I know you want to kill me, but how about I buy you something to eat first?"

Deepa glared at him. "I don't need charity from a psychopath."

"I'm not doing this because I like you," Axel spat. "I'm doing this because I…”

Axel paused, unsure of his own reasoning.

Deepa scoffed. "Like you give a damn."

"Fine," Axel snarled. "Go ahead and starve."

Axel turned on his heel, ready to leave her to fend for herself.

"Wait!" Deepa called out, causing him to pause in his step.

"What?" he hissed, glaring back at her.

"You’ll really buy me food?"

Axel raised an eyebrow. "That’s what I said."

Deepa sighed. "Fine."

"Fine?"

"Yes," she hissed. "Now let's go."

Axel nodded, trying to ignore the small leap of joy in his chest.

She didn't seem keen on talking as they walked to a nearby cafe, and Axel was more than happy to remain silent.

The place was almost empty when they entered, the only other customer being a man sitting alone, his eyes glued to the tablet in his hands.

Axel slid into an empty booth and she took a seat opposite him, her eyes darting around the place.

"This isn't a trap," Axel said.

She huffed. "I'm not worried about werewolves."

"Oh, that's right," Axel said with a grin. "It's your little friends that you have to worry about now."

"Shut the fuck up," Deepa hissed.
