"He's found his fated mate," Luke smirked.

Reese's hand slipped on the weight, sending it crashing to the floor.

"No way," Bruno gasped. "That shit's real?"

"We're not fated mates!” Axel snapped.

"Yes you are," Luke grinned sardonically. "How else would you explain it? Why else would that angry little woman with all the death threats keep showing up to screw you?"

Axel glared at him, but didn't deny it. He couldn't. The fact was, even though he hated her guts, and she clearly hated him, there was something between them that he couldn't explain.

"Wow," Reese said with awe. "That's just like your dad, right?"

"Don't mention that bastard's name?" Axel snapped back.

"Sorry, bro," Reese muttered.

Axel huffed and returned his attention to the television screen, trying to block out his cousins’ conversation, but he couldn't help but overhear.

"I can't believe it," Bruno said. "I thought that fated mate stuff was just a fairytale."

"Me too," Reese replied.

"Do you think it'll work out?" Bruno asked. "Like, do you think they'll fall in love and live happily ever after?"

Axel snorted.

"I hope so," Luke said. “Maybe then he’ll be more fun to hang out with.”

Axel shot him a dirty look, which Luke ignored.

"I mean, it's pretty rare for a werewolf to find their mate," Luke continued. "You hear stories, but I never thought it was actually possible."

"Yeah," Reese agreed. "But then Axel's dad-"

"I told you to shove it!" Axel said, getting to his feet.

Any mention of his father was enough to make Axel want to drive his fist through a wall.

"Shit," Reese said, quickly apologizing, but Axel got to his feet, quickly storming out of the room.

"Fuck," Axel hissed, running his hand through his hair, his mind racing, his blood boiling.

He barely remembered his father, but the stories were enough to make him hate the man with every fiber of his being.

He was a coward, a traitor, a bastard who abandoned his family to screw his human turned werewolf side piece. All the while claiming that they were fated mates.

It was utter bullshit.

And Axel swore to himself that he'd never repeat the man's mistakes.

Not for some woman.

Spending time with women was fun. Breeding was fun.

But falling in love?

Screw that shit.
