Amelia glanced at Wyatt and he was staring at his father in astonishment. She squeezed his hand in a show of support.

Just as before, every elder, including Amelia’s father said, “I agree.”

Joseph turned to Wyatt and said, “You are free to go—or stay, should you wish to.”

Wyatt turned to Amelia, his brow creased in a deep frown as if he couldn’t believe what had just happened. Then his mouth stretched into a wide smile, and he reached for her just as she reached for him. He kissed her full on the mouth before pulling her in for a hug.

“Wyatt,” Amelia’s mother said, making them pull apart. “I want to thank you for bringing my daughter back here, for saving her life even though you believed it would cost you your own. I am forever in your debt.”

“There’s no need to thank me,” he said. “She’s my mate, and the most incredible woman I’ve ever met. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her.”

“Will you stay?” she asked.

Wyatt frowned. “I…”

“No,” Amelia said, before turning to Wyatt for confirmation. “Our home is in Miami, and we’ll be going back there just as soon as I can fly—if that’s okay with my mate.”

“Are you sure?” Wyatt asked.

She nodded. “Perfectly.”

“I believe my mate just spoke for us,” Wyatt said. “But you are more than welcome to visit anytime you like.”

“Does that invitation apply to me and your mother, too?” Wyatt’s father asked.

Amelia held her breath while she waited to hear how Wyatt would respond. He had to be angry with his dad for siding with the other elders and agreeing to banish him, but Wyatt wasn’t a bitter man and didn’t strike her as someone who would hold a grudge, and even as angry as he was at his father, he must have missed him and his mom immensely.

“It applies to you too, Father,” Wyatt said, confirming what Amelia knew of her mate.

She knew right then that Wyatt was a better person than she was, because ifherfather had kicked her out of the only home she knew when she was just fifteen years old, she didn’t think she had it in her to be as forgiving.

Lorenz simply nodded, then squeezed Wyatt’s shoulder before heading for the cave. Amelia imagined he was going to tell Wyatt’s mother, Emily, what had happened. And if Emily was half so good as her son, it would be the best news she’d ever heard.

Wyatt turned to Amelia and stroked his knuckles against her cheek. “Shouldn’t you be inside resting?”

“Probably,” she said. “Tuck me in?”

He shook his head, smiling wryly then got to his feet. He reached down, grabbed Amelia and swung her up into his arms. “Lead the way.”
