“But what?”

“Well, for the past few days, I got the feeling that someone has been watching me. I haven’t seen anyone, at least, not until last night when I followed you home, but he left when I walked toward him.”

A frown creased Wyatt’s brow. “Why would you walk toward him?”

“Because I wanted to see what the hell his problem was.”

“Have you got a death wish?”

“Excuse me?”

He glared at her. “First the men in the alleyway, now this other man?”

“I don’t think they’re connected.”

“That doesn’t matter.” He threw his hands up. “You can’t just go walking toward danger!”

“Can’t? I can do whatever I want, and you don’t get to tell me otherwise. You think some human man scares me?”

“You’re not bulletproof!” Wyatt shot back angrily.

“I was perfectly safe,” she said snottily.

Wyatt stared at her for a long moment. “I’m going to call a friend of mine. I’m sure it won’t be a problem for you to stay with him and his mate for a few days, at least until we can be certain you’re not in any danger.”

“Absolutely not!”

A low rumble sounded in Wyatt’s throat. “I’m trying to keep you safe!”

“Well, I don’t need you to keep me safe. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself.”

“It will only be until we know what we’re dealing with.”

“I don’t care. I am not going to live with complete strangers.”

“Fine! Then you can damn well stay here!” he shouted.

It was on the tip of Amelia’s tongue to say no, but her dragon silenced her.

Stay with our mate. Let him see we do not need protecting from the clan.

It was easy to follow the dragon’s logic. After all, if they were living under the same roof, even if only for a couple of days, she might be able to wear him down and convince him to mate with her. Although he infuriated her so much, shemight be the one to change her mind about matinghim. Because she wasn’t going to waste her time running around after a man who didn’t want her, no matter how jaw-droppingly hot he might be, or how much his scowl made her stomach twist in tight coils of excitement, or…

Dammit.

“Fine,” she huffed. “But you’ll soon see that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. There’s nobody out to get me. I’m sure that man you saw wasn’t the same one as the night before. It was probably just coincidence.”

“I certainly hope so,” Wyatt said. “But I’d rather be safe than sorry. Wouldn’t you?”

Yes, she would, but if she said so she would have been agreeing with him and at that moment in time, she was too annoyed with him to allow him to think that he was right about anything at all—even something as silly as that.
