How the hell did that happen?
Chapter Ten
Liam
“That’s it, now hold it,” Hawk said. “Just for a few minutes more.”
Liam had shifted his hand into a paw for the third time that day and each new time he’d done it, he had managed to last a few seconds longer and was becoming more and more used to not only the feel of it but to the sight of it too.
“That’s perfect, Liam!” Eve said.
He preened under the compliment. Every time she said something nice to him, Liam wanted to do even more things to gain her approval. He loved how excited she got when he did something right.
“After this, we’ll move on to your eyes and teeth,” Hawk said.
Liam blinked. “Come again?”
Eve chuckled. “You can partially shift your eyes into their panther form and get your canine teeth to descend, too.”
“You’re kidding me.”
“Hawk?” Eve said.
The agent grinned and as Liam watched, his eyes flashed a bright amber color. Eve did it next, her eyes shifting to the same soft amber and when she opened her mouth, there were fangs in place of a couple of teeth.
“Holy crap,” Liam breathed. “That looks creepy as hell, but also strangely erotic.”
When Hawk cleared his throat, Liam turned to him and mumbled an apology before asking, “Are you a panther shifter, too?”
Hawk spluttered a laugh. “No, the clue is in the name.”
Liam’s eyes widened when the implication hit him. “You change into abird?”
Hawk grinned as he held out his arm and a moment later it was covered in a fine dusting of feathers.
Liam gasped. “Wow!”
He could barely contain his glee. He felt like a kid on Christmas morning, not that he could fully relate to that expression because he’d never had much on Christmas. Still, now it felt as if all of his Christmases had come at once.
“Okay, so Hawk’s nickname makes sense now, but Kit?” Liam asked.
Hawk laughed. “Tell him what it’s short for.”
Eve rolled her eyes. “Kit is short for Kitty Kat. It was a joke from the members of my SWAT team and it kinda stuck. I can’t even remember who came up with it in the first place. Probably Ted or Ice, they are the jokers of the team.”
“Actually, I think it was Flint,” Hawk said.
Eve’s eyes widened. “No kidding? Are you sure? He’s always so serious.”
“Sure, but I think that’s only because he’s in charge of the team and we all give him so much trouble.”
Eve grinned. “You’re probably right about that.”
“So, what other kinds of shifters are there?” Liam asked.
Hawk shrugged. “There are all kinds. Wolves and big cats are about the most common, though.”
“And bears,” Eve added.
