“You feel so good,” he said as he started to move. “Perfect.”

Itwasperfect. And each slide and thrust and glide of their bodies made her tingle, her heart hammering in her chest. As he moved harder and faster, she felt the surge in her body yet again. An ache that grew and grew until she teetered on the edge and knew it would take nothing to push her over the precipice.

“Are you going to bite me now?” she asked.

“Jesus.”

Sloane squeezed his eyes together almost as if he was in pain and when he opened them again, they had shifted to the eyes of his bear. It was the sexiest thing she’d ever seen. When he opened his mouth, his teeth had lengthened into incredibly sharp looking incisors.

“Do you accept me as your mate?” he asked.

She stared up at him wide eyed, confused by the question. “Of course.”

“Christ, I…” His face was filled with wonder and surprise.

He leaned down and put his nose against her throat, then snaked his tongue out and flicked it against the sensitive spot behind her ears, driving her insane. But he didn’t bite her.

He continued to thrust into her again and again, harder and deeper than before, and when his legs started to shake, he let out an animalistic roar then lowered his head and struck, sinking his teeth into her neck. It was too much. With the pounding against her clit and the deep thrusts in her pussy combined with the sharp sting of the bite, Ray couldn’t hold back any longer and she came, shouting out Sloane’s name. A moment later, he pulled his teeth free from her neck then grunted. Pressed deep, he stilled his hips, his fingers biting into her hips then spilled himself inside her. They stayed locked together like that for long moments before Sloane pulled out and slid to the side, taking her with him to rest her head on his shoulder.

“Ray?”

“Hmm?” she murmured, her eyes growing heavy.

“A shifter doesn’t usually claim his mate that soon. I mean, not until they’ve had a chance to get to know each other a little better.”

She froze. “Do you think you might change your mind about me?”

“No, silly,” he said with a quick burst of laughter, and then pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead. “You’re my mate, not something I picked up at the store and can return if I decide I don’t want it. That wasn’t what I meant.”

She relaxed again, her body molding itself to his. “What did you mean?”

“Just that I was born this way, and have had my entire life to get used to it and make my peace with what I am. But this is all new for you. Now that I’ve claimed you, it can’t be undone. Didn’t you need any time to come to terms with all of this?”

“Perhaps,” she said. “But you said something earlier that made me think.”

“What was that?”

“You said that I couldn’t have stayed away from you anymore than you could have stayed away from me. This was always meant to be.”

“Sure, but it still has to be a lot for you to digest.”

“Yeah, but it’s not like I haven’t got time to get used to it.”

“Yeah, more time than most.”

“Huh?”

He winced. “Um, that’s probably something else we should have discussed before I claimed you.”

“What?”

He pulled back to watch her face, his eyes flicking anxiously over it as he spoke. “Shifters live for a long time. Twice as long as humans, and some live for even longer than that. And when a shifter claims their mate, the mate’s lifespan increases too.”

Ray shot up in bed and stared down at Sloane’s face. “Are you serious?”

“Yeah.”

“So I’m going to live…”
