“Get out of my sight,” he said. “Before I arrest you too for assaulting a minor.”
They hotfooted it away without another word.
“And you three,” Ramon fumed, staring at the three fool hawk shifters in turn. “What in the hell did you think you were playing at, coming here tonight?”
“We just wanted to have some fun,” Carlos said.
“You just wanted to start some trouble is what you wanted. How did you get here?”
One of Carlos’ friends stepped forward. Ramon thought his name was Santino. “I borrowed my dad’s car, sir.”
“Well get back in it and get home, straighthome,” Ramon ordered. “Before I arrest you three idiots as well. If I find out you went anywhere else after leaving here, there’ll be hell to pay. Do I make myself clear?”
They nodded.
“Answer me,” Ramon thundered.
“Yes, sir!” they all said quickly.
“Now get. And I’ll see all three of you tomorrow.”
They practically ran from the yard, leaving Ramon finally standing alone with his mate not ten feet away from him. He stumbled closer, hoping he wouldn’t trip over his tongue as well as his feet.
“Mate,” he breathed again.
“It would seem that way, yes,” she replied. “It would also seem that you’re not happy about that fact. In the least.”
“No, I am,” Ramon was quick to assure her. “I mean, I never thought I would meet my mate under such circumstances, but I am happy.”
He frowned when something occurred to him. She’d saidalso.
“Aren’t you? Happy, I mean.”
She heaved a sigh. “You’re a hawk shifter.”
“And you’re a lion.”
“It’s impossible,” she said. “My family already hates yours. And now that you’ve arrested my brother…”
“Yourbrother?”
The fact made Ramon both elated and thoroughly dejected at the same time.
“I’m sorry about that. It was the only way I could get them to stop fighting.”
“You’re an FBI agent?”
“Yes, on a SWAT team.” It was impossible to keep the trace of pride from his voice when he said it.
Yes,his bird urged.Impress mate with our titles.
“Assaulting a federal agent,” she murmured. “Mason will go to prison for that, probably for a long time.” She shook her head. “Not that the little shit doesn’t deserve it.”
Ramon couldn’t help himself, a booming laugh tore from his throat. He quickly reined it in, but he couldn’t quite keep the amusement from his face.
“I see even Mason’s family aren’t immune to his many…er, charms.”
She grinned. “How did you guess?”
