“Let’s get you home,” he said to her.
“Thank you,” she replied, leaning into his side. “Home sounds great right about now.”
Chapter Twelve
Saffy
When Saffy opened her eyes, she was lying in bed, a warm solid presence at her back and it only took her a moment to realize what it was. Ramon was pressed up against her, his arm wrapped around her waist and one of his legs thrown over both of hers. He had essentially trapped her in the bed, but she’d never felt safer or more comfortable and a small smile slid over her lips. If this was being trapped, she never wanted to be free.
“Good morning, beautiful,” he said, pulling her even tighter against his chest.
“You’re awake.”
“Yeah, for about thirty minutes now.”
She frowned. “Why didn’t you get up?”
“I did,” he said. “I went to call your boss to tell her you wouldn’t be in today, then I called mine and gave him the same news.”
“Thank you,” she murmured into his muscular chest. “I don’t feel up to working today and I probably would have scared the customers away with my black eye.”
“It’s healing well,” Ramon said.
“Thank God.”
She’d shifted when they got home the night before to help her body heal from her injuries, but it would take another day at least for her bruises to disappear.
“You didn’t need to take the day off yourself,” she said. “I’d have been fine here on my own.”
“I did,” he said.
“Why?”
“Gonna spend it spoiling you.”
Saffy smiled. She liked the sound of that. Very much.
“Why didn’t you wake me?”
“After what you went through yesterday, I figured you deserved a lie in.”
She heaved a sigh. “I’m fine, honestly. You don’t need to worry.”
“I might not need to, but I’m going to. It’s my job to worry about you, mi cielo.”
She sighed again and snuggled closer to Ramon’s front. “Did I tell you I like it when you speak Spanish to me?”
At that, Ramon leaned in close to her ear and started murmuring to her softly in Spanish. She recognized a couple of the words, so was able to get the gist of what he said, but she wished she could understand all of it.
“Hmm,” she said, after he’d finished talking. “You’re going to have to teach me.”
“Yeah, you want to learn?”
“Definitely.”
She turned in his arms then placed a long, lingering kiss on his lips. When the kiss began to get heated, Ramon started to pull away.
“I think we should wait until you’re fully healed.”
