Maya frowned. “What, why?”
“He saw Diego grab me,” Aria said quietly.
Maya sighed. “Oh, right. You can’t go on like this, Aria. You’ve got to do something about him.”
“What? I’ve only just met him.”
“What? No, I meanDiego. You can’t let him keep doing this.”
“He’s treated you like this before?” Nash fumed, his anger bubbling to the surface.
“Just stay out of it, please,” Aria said. “You’ve already made things worse by punching him. He’ll be furious when he wakes up.” She turned to shoot a glare at Maya. “You promised you wouldn’t say anything.”
Maya heaved a sigh. “I know, but please think about what I said. He can help.”
“I don’t need any help,” Aria said. She turned and eyed the unconscious body—like it was a burden, rather than the object of her affections, Nash couldn’t help but note with a stab of silent pleasure. “Well, except maybe getting Diego into my car.”
“I’m not letting you go home with him,” Nash said. “Not if you’re in danger.”
Aria glared at him. “You’re notlettingme?”
Nash nodded, resolute. “You’re coming to live with me.”
Chapter Four
Aria
Aria craned her neck to look up into Nash’s stupidly handsome face. “Did you just ask me to move in with you?”
“Yes, but—”
“You don’t even know me.”
“No, but—”
“I don’t even know you.”
“I know, but it’s obvious you need protection from this,” he pointed down at Diego with a scowl on his face. “Thisloser. And I can give it to you.”
“Look, thank you for the offer, I appreciate it, but I don’t need your help. I don’t need anyone’s help.”
Nash blew out a breath of frustration and ran a hand through his thick, dark hair. He was evidently annoyed but doing his best to keep himself in check. He was so handsome when he was frustrated. Actually, he was handsome when he was angry, too. Aria hadn’t seen what he looked like when he was happy, but she imagined it was a sight to behold. Then she cursed herself mentally. How could she be thinking about how handsome Nash was when her husband was lying on the ground unconscious, not two feet away from her? What the heck was wrong with her?
Diego chose that very moment to groan and blink open his eyes. She turned back to Nash.
“You should leave. I don’t want Diego to see you when he wakes up.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he said.
She shot another glance down at her husband, and then back to Nash.
“Please,” she begged.
She glanced at Maya with pleading eyes and Maya nodded.
“Cole?” Maya said.
Her partner nodded. “Come on, buddy,” Cole said. “Let’s get out of Aria’s hair.”
