“Why didn’t you tell me you were out here?” I asked as soon as I stepped outside.

“I wanted a second to myself,” she said, and shrugged. I watched her for a moment, trying to see if her body language was off, but didn’t notice anything abnormal. She must’ve felt my eyes on her because she turned to face me with a smile on her face. “I’m good, Amethyst. You can stop staring at me like that.”

I set our plates on the table, then put my hand out for her to take. When she placed her hand on mine, I pulled her from her seat and claimed it. “Come on,” I said, pulling her onto my lap. She hesitated for a moment but quickly gave in. I wrapped my arms around her waist and then rested my chin on her shoulder. We sat in silence as we watched the sun rise.

“Your sister called me a simp,” I said, then kissed her neck.

“Which one?” she asked as she picked up a fork.

I waited until after she blessed the food before I answered. “Berkeley.”

“It was either her or Clarke,” she laughed, then took a bite of her food. “Oh damn, this is good.”

“I’m glad you’re enjoying it.” Yale repositioned herself in my lap so that she could feed me. Even though everything was simple, it was good, which is what I was aiming for. “What do you have planned for the day?” I asked as we ate.

“I have a meeting with a new jeweler,” she answered, and I nodded. I knew about the jeweler because he was recommended by Gift. I was hesitant to bring someone into the fold right now because of the shit with Tank and Lavender, but Yale had abusiness to run. We’d put in precautions, but I was still planning to be there.

“After we do that,” I said, shaking my head.

“What do you mean, we?” She stopped eating and turned her face to look at me. Her brow went up when I didn’t respond. “Amethyst?”

“I’m going with you.” I reached around her to pick up a piece of fruit and fed it to her. “You got a problem with that?”

“No,” she answered and shook her head. “I’m just surprised by it all.”

“Why?” I asked. She took another bite of the fruit, and when her lips wrapped around my fingers, I had to bite into my bottom lip to keep from moaning. Her mouth felt good as fuck, and I knew my dick wasn’t going to soften for the rest of the day. Her tongue circled my fingers, and I swear my dick got harder. “Sunshine, stop playing.”

She slowly removed her mouth from around my fingers, then licked her lips. “No, reason just asked,” she said, answering my question. I leaned back in the seat and wiped my hand over my face. “You good?”

“Nah,” I honestly answered and shook my head. “My dick is hard as fuck, and I’m going to have to jack my shit off to get some kind of relief.” I chuckled and dropped my head back. “I’m too old to be doing that shit, but it’s what I gotta do.”

“Why--” I lifted my head and glared at her. Yale threw her head back and laughed. “I’m going back to sleep for a little while.” She stood, and I grabbed her waist to keep her from moving.

I raised and rested my face against her stomach. It was crazy how I always wanted to touch on her before she was pregnant, but now the feeling was almost overwhelming at times. Knowing that my daughter was growing inside of her made my eyes water.

“Hey, you okay?” she asked as she ran her hands through my hair.

“Yeah.” I nodded. “Just grateful for y’all and needed a moment is all.” I kissed her stomach, then lifted my head to look at her. “You don’t know how much I wanted this.”

“I have a feeling.” She smirked.

“Nah--”

“You wanted it so much that you went to Gray and had her use your sperm and not Grant’s?” she questioned, and I nodded. There was no reason to lie to her, and from the way she looked at me, I couldn’t tell if she was mad or not, but there wasn’t shit she could do about it. She was carrying my daughter because she was supposed to be the woman who carried my children. “I should be mad as fuck at you right now.”

“I don’t agree,” I said, leaning back. I crossed my arms and watched as she put her hands on her hips.

“And why not?”

“Because you were always supposed to carry my seed, Sunshine.” I shrugged. “That nigga Grant didn’t deserve you, and we both know it. Shit, his ass knew it too, which is why he never showed up to his appointments. That nigga never had any intention of doing it either. My going to Gray wasn’t no spur-of-the-moment shit either. As soon as I realized what you were doing, I started planning.” I palmed her stomach. “This little girl and the others we make after her were always supposed to be mine.”

“You are so fucking cocky,” she laughed and shook her head. “I want to be mad, I really do, but I’m not, and that’s only because Grant wasn’t shit, but that doesn’t mean I’m not disappointed in you.” I looked up at her, confused.

“If you’re not mad, why are you disappointed?”

“Because this is another example of you doing shit without thinking of the repercussions. You decided on something thatwould affect my life without discussing it with me. What if Grant or his family weren’t dead? How would I explain this baby to him or them?”

“You wouldn’t have to explain shit,” I said, shaking my head. “No matter what we thought we were doing, it wouldn’t have mattered because this was always supposed to be like this for us.”
