“The entire family ain’t shit,’ I said, shaking my head.

“I know,” she sadly laughed. “I hate them all.” She laid her head on my chest. “Now I wish I had run Quincy over when I saw him while in Florida.”

“You saw him in Florida?” I lifted her face to make her look at me. She nodded, and I felt myself getting pissed. My ears got hot, and I licked my lips to try to keep my temper under control. “When?”

“The day before I called Mama Diamond,” she answered. “It’s why I wanted to come back. Well, one of the reasons.”

“Does he know you’re pregnant?” I asked.

“No,” she denied, shaking her head. “I was in the car and didn’t get out. He couldn’t see my stomach.”

My hand went to her stomach, and I felt my baby kick. I had to protect my family. The old me, before all this shit came out, would’ve waited until Yale went to sleep tonight and went and showed my ass. Now I was going to wait. We had a plan, and I was going to let it play out. But in doing so, I was still going to make sure my woman and daughter were safe.

“What did he say?”

“Who? Hershel or Quincy?”

“Both,” I answered.

Yale took a deep breath, then told me what happened with her interaction with Hershel, then with Quincy, and all I could do was sit there and listen. Hershel, being a part of this bullshit with Grant, didn’t surprise me. Niggas had all kinds of secrets. But Quincy stepping to her in the middle of the street while she was on vacation was a power move that would be checked.

“I’m glad you came home,” I said, kissing her forehead after she was finished. “I got you. This will be handled sooner rather than later.”

“I know,” she said, nodding.

We sat in silence, and eventually Yale returned to working on her design. I watched her, loving to see how her emotions played across her face. When she was excited, her eyes sparkled, and her smile was contagious as fuck. Her phone was connected to Bluetooth, so music played softly through the room. Her hips swayed, and I had to bite into my bottom lip. My dick sat between her ass cheeks, and I could feel it starting to get hard.

“I need you to be still.” I put my hands on her hips to stop her movements. Yale looked over her shoulder and lifted her brow. “Be still, Sunshine.” I slightly flexed my hips to prove my point. I felt her shudder, and her eyes got low with lust. I licked my lips and shook my head. “Just be still because I’m trying to respect the fuck out of you.” I leaned forward and put my face as close to hers as possible without touching her. “Don’t get me wrong, I want to push your panties to the side and slide my dick in slow as fuck.” I felt her shudder again, and I smiled. “I’m going to keep it a buck with you. I haven’t had sex since the last time we fucked. When I get back between your thighs, and I will be back between them, I’m going to shoot so much sperm up in you that our daughter is going to be playing with her future siblings while still in the womb.”

Chapter forty-six

Yale

Iwalked into the living room to see Spelman working and shook my head. She was so damn career-driven. I eased down next to her and rested my head on her shoulder.

“What’s wrong?” she said without taking her eyes off her laptop. She was reading over a file on Vine Carter. Spelman had mentioned wanting to sign her, so I wasn’t surprised to see her doing research.

“Why do you think it’s something wrong?” I asked, laughing. Spelman’s mouth twisted to the side, and she looked over at me. As a big sister, she never half-stepped, and I was grateful. “What?”

“What’s wrong, Yale?” she asked again.

“Nothing is wrong,” I answered. “I want to introduce you to someone, but I don’t know how you’ll react or if you’ll be interested.”

“If it’s a man, I’m not.” She went back to working, and I smiled. I knew she wasn’t interested in meeting a man right now, and to be honest, I didn’t have anyone in mind I would want to share her with.

“It’s not,” I said as I watched her flip through different articles on Vine. “I want you to meet Aurora and Bradley.”

“Who are they?”

“Aurora is Nova and Galaxy’s older sister, and Bradley is McCoy’s older sister.”

“And who in this big ass friend group are they dating?”

“Aurora is dating Domo,” I answered with a laugh. “Bradley isn’t dating anyone that I know of.”

“Is there a reason why you want us to meet?” She closed one article and then opened another. I knew that Vine was a good player because Amethyst had dragged me to a few games in the past to see her play. Seeing her stats broken down since she’d been in the WNBA wasn’t a surprise, but I was impressed. “Or are you just trying to make me make friends so I can be out of your house?”

“You can stay here as long as you want,” I replied, rolling my eyes. “I don’t care about any of you being here, and you know it. But I want you to meet them because y’all give off the same vibes.”
