Jasper: Hey are you free today?

Jasper: Kieran.

Jasper: Is this you playing hard to get?

“Wow. You’re obsessed with me,” I say.

He ignores me. “Busy with what?”

“Studying,” I answer. “To answer your question about whether I’m free, no, I’m not.”

“Because you’re studying?” He sounds doubtful.

“I do study, you know.”

He’s quiet for a beat too long. Jesus Christ, don’t tell me he’s surprised. Did he think all I did was fuck around and neglect all of my school work?

“What are you doing right now?” he asks.

“Watching that movie for English.” My English teacher told our class to rewatch the movie to compile a list of quotes and other evidence. I’ve been meaning to watch the movie all week, but I forgot about it with all my other homework, meetings with Jasper and general tiredness.

“I need to rewatch that too,” he says.

“Good. You can watch it now instead of seeing me.”

“Kieran.” It’s almost a whine, and I’m reminded of the way his voice changes in bed.

“Jasper,” I mimic. “If the roles were reversed, you’d lecture me that education is more important than getting off, or something like that. If you’re horny, use your right hand.”

He doesn’t say anything.

“We did it two days ago,” I say. Then, because my brain’s a traitor, I think of that afternoon, how Jasper held my arms down and attacked my lips with his mouth. He slicked our dicks with lube and then — shit. I’m getting hard just thinking about it.

Don’t give in, I command myself. It’s a matter of pride. You can’t just scurry over to his mansion because he asked you. This is Jasper Harvey, remember.

Besides, I really do need to study. I want to get a grade above C at least once this year.

“I have a TV in my room,” Jasper says.

“Congratulations.”

“Listen. We can watch the movie together. After we…” his voice trails off, and my mind fills the blanks. I think of his lips wrapped around —

“No thanks,” I make myself say.

“It’ll be better to watch it together, anyway,” Jasper says. “That way, we can note double the amount of details. This is the better way.”

I frown, staring at my laptop screen. If I’m honest, this movie is boring as hell and writing quotes is tedious. Seeing Jasper would be motivational.

But I can’t. I won’t. I open my mouth to refuse and then —

“Fine. I’ll be there in fifteen.”

“The house is empty, right?” I say when Jasper opens the front door.

“Of course.” He walks away, leaving me to close the door and follow him.
