Eve takes a breath. “Tiana, Alison and Sana know.”

Henry’s gaze bounces between Eve and me.

“Knows what?” he asks. I wonder the same thing, though my heart stutters as if my body knows already.

“They know about everything we discussed in Maths.” She looks at Henry. “They know about you two.”

I feel as if I’ve been doused in freezing water. No, no, no.

“What about us?” Henry glances at me. His voice is casual but forced. I can’t meet his eye, and he understands. “You know,” he says to Eve.

She nods.

His head whips to mine. “You told her? Noah — look at me.”

I shake my head, barely able to meet his eyes.

The dam around his emotions shatters. “You told her? How could you do that? Fuck!”

“Henry, I didn’t—”

“He didn’t,” Eve interrupts. “I found out. Accidentally. The sports shed.”

Henry’s face goes pale. “Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck.”

“Henry, it’s not Eve you have to worry about. She’s fine. She’s trustworthy.”

“I would never say anything,” Eve says.

It doesn’t matter what we say, though, because Henry isn’t listening. He walks backwards until he bumps into a table.

“What did you say about the girls?” he asks.

“They know. They overheard Noah and I talking about it in Maths.”

Henry inhales. “What do they know?”

“The general gist of things,” Eve explains, and my stomach sinks. “They know about the … arrangement you two had.”

“You’ve got to be fucking with me,” Henry says.

“Trust me, I’m not.”

“What happened?” I ask, feeling numb.

“At recess the three of them came up to me and started talking about it. Ruby was there, but they alluded to it and mentioned Henry’s name. I don’t know how much she was paying attention if she put the pieces together. They also know about Oliver and The Jealousy Pact.”

“Oliver?” Henry interrupts. “Oliver Hutchison? The Oliver you were kissing at the party Saturday night?”

Eve nods. “But don’t worry about it, it’s irrelevant.”

“I’lldecide if it’s irrelevant,” Henry says. “What’s the Jealousy Pact —oh.” He’s looking at me.

I can’t meet his eyes.

“Eve wasn’t helping you make me jealous for nothing. It … it was a deal. And Oliver …” He takes a second to put the pieces together. “That’s who you wanted,” he says to her.

After a moment, Eve nods. “After they left, I went after them.”
