God, I hope I didn’t say anything incriminating. I bury my head in my hands. No, no, no.
“I don’t know how long you were with him, but we left after that,” Noah explains. “I tried to find Ruby first, but she’d gone.”
“Why would she do that?” I burst out, looking up from my hands. How could she leave me at a party? What the actual f—
“She’d seen you with Oliver. There was … shouting involved.”
Fuck.
“That’s what people told me, though. I don’t know how much of it is true. After the fight, she left. And … you went back to Oliver.”
“She must hate me,” I mutter. She left me at a party. But she found me with Oliver. I can imagine how mad she would have been. But sheleftme.
Noah puts a hand on my arm. “It’s okay, Eve.”
I groan, the sound long and ugly. I hang my head, causing a fresh wave of pounding pain. I press a hand against my scalp. “Ow.”
Noah clicks his fingers. “I’ll be back with water and painkillers, okay? Sit tight.” Before he leaves for the door, though, he goes to his wardrobe and pulls out a set of fresh clothes.
“It’s for Kaito,” he explains. “He needs a change of clothes. That’s what I came here for.”
“He’s here too?”
Noah nods. “Tiana, too. They slept in the spare bedroom. I took the couch.”
“You should have dumped me on the couch. Now I feel bad for taking your bed.”
There’s the tiniest hint of a smile on his lips before he leaves the room, the first hint of happiness I’ve seen from him all morning. What shit show did he go through last night?
Noah returns with a glass of water and two tablets, and I swallow them while remaining in bed, sitting amongst the blankets.
The pain of my headache worsens when I think about what Ruby would have said to me last night. What will she say the next time I speak to her?
How could you kiss my brother?
How could you like him?
How could you not tell me?
You’re such a liar, Eve.
That last one makes my body tense.
And why in the world did I kiss Oliver? What if I never kiss him again? Does he hate me? He must have kissed me back for us to make out. But he must have been super drunk too, to kiss a friend. Maybe he doesn’t remember anything.
“So what happened after you found me with Oliver?” I ask Noah, who sits on the bed, shoulders drooped.
“I took you and tried to find Ruby.”
“What did Oliver say?”
Noah sighs, his eyes focused on the distance. “He was mad as shit. We argued a bit. Nothing major,” he clarifies. “I got what I wanted because everyone thought you were my girlfriend. There was no way you’d be able to stay at the party without me.”
My eyes shut when I remember people think I’m with Noah. God damn it.
“Is that what you’re upset about?” I ask.
Noah flinches. “What?”
