Postscript: God almighty, you can see I’m in a state. I am readingThe Orphan Master’s Sonby Adam Johnson. What are you reading?

Second postscript: Mick Watts wants to take me to dinner again—he delivered a note by hand last week. Of course Mick is a bit of an ass. He eats terribly, smokes, and drinks dark spirits, and he’s not a reader of fiction…but he is funny. God, he’s very funny, makes me laugh. Trudy and Millie think I should go again, but they never knew Daan. What do you think?

SUBJECT: Security cameras

Hi James, In the midst of Harry’s great escape you mentioned you have security cameras on your porch. I went into town to the hardware store but did not see anything of this nature for sale. Please send instructions on how or where to have security cameras installed on one’s porch.

I hope things have calmed down somewhat.

Warm regards,

Sybil

Hi from Belgium, Mom. Thought of you today—in a bookshop found a translation of84 Charing Cross Road(Helene Hanff)—did you ever read it? I picked it up and read a few of the letters—forgot how funny they are, reminds me of you a bit. Anyway, bought this postcard there and now sitting having a coffee. The picture is really how it looks here all decked for Christmas, houses like iced gingerbread and lights like candies. Really beautiful. You know I’m not one to write, much easier to pick up the phone and call or text, but I know you love it. Dad is doing OK, pleasant as usual, but thin and quieter, or tired. Will miss you at the holiday—was sweet of you to send the sweater for Charles. Don’t be lonely—what are Trudy and Millie up to? I will see you first week of March. Charles misses his Gran, and merry Christmas from Walt and me,

p.s. How is Harry Landy doing?
