“I told them about what happened at home, and that I took what I could and left. That I wanted to start over somewhere warm and was hitchhiking down south and you guys were the first ones to pick me up. Found out we were scent matches, and I decided to head back here with you guys. He tried asking more questions about where you all were before we met and what you were doing, but I refused to answer. I reminded him of the factthat I was supposed to be there for my missing persons report and told him that if we were done with that, I was leaving.”
“That’s it?” Ian asks. “He just let you go? Didn’t press you for more?”
“No, but I think it was because he didn’t want me to suspect he knew something about you guys. I could be reading too much into it. It could be nothing, but I thought you should know. I mean, if it was just about my missing person’s report, why bring me there in a sketchy way, like he didn’t want people to know what he was doing?”
Leaning forward, my brows furrow.
Why wouldn’t he want people to know what he’s doing? Is his investigating us in secret?
Who the fuck is this Detective Davis, and what the fuck does he want with my pack? If the police haven't made a big deal about what we’ve been doing before, why now?
There’s no point because we’re done doing heists. We have no need for them anymore. Honestly, I didn't enjoy doing them anyway. It was just a means to get money fast.
Now that we don’t need quick money, there is no point in continuing. The fucker should just leave it be and move on. And if he doesn’t? I’ll have to make sure he does.
“We’ll keep an eye on him,” I tell Nova. “In the meantime, stay away from him. If he harasses you again, call one of us. Better yet, never leave our sides, then you have nothing to worry about.”
“Fat fucking chance,” Nova snorts. “I love this one,” she says, pointing to Ian. “Really like this one.” She points to Will. “And I’m finally able to tolerate you.” She smiles sweetly at me.Brat.“But if I had to be with you twenty-four seven, I’d have no Alphas left because I’d murder you all for getting on my fucking nerves.”
“Hey! I’m a delight to be around,” Ian pouts.
“I know you are, baby.” Nova pats his cheek. “Maybe I’d just stab you instead as a warning.”
The crazy fucker beams at her like she hung the moon.
“Careful, Little Rabbit,” Will growls, making Nova’s eyes snap over to him. “Threatening me like that might get you in trouble.” Her cheeks heat as she squirms in her seat, and we’re all hit with a wave of her perfume, forcing us all to let out feral growls.
“Ah, I’m gonna go work on my nest.” Nova gets to her feet and grabs the cat from Ian. “Come on, baby, you can help Mama decide where to put what.”
She snatches up a hissing Petunia up from the corner of the room on her way and takes the two of them upstairs with her.
“Do you think she’s finally comfortable here?” Ian asks, looking at me after watching her go. “She’s had all the stuff for her nest for weeks now. And I finished renovations on the closet way before that, but she hasn’t done anything with it.”
“I think it might be because of everything going on. Plus, has she really ever gotten a chance to have a nest of her own? Like, a real nest, not some makeshift bullshit?” Will asks.
“No,” Ian sighs. “She told me her nest at her old place was some sad little corner in her room. No privacy at all. That's why I made sure she had that room. It’s big enough for a real nest, but not too big otherwise she’d feel open and exposed.”
“I think we need to spend more time with her,” Will says, looking at me. “We’ve been so swept up with MC stuff that we haven’t had the chance to get to know her. The abandoned house doesn't count.” He glares.
“Okay, so I was a dick to her then. She doesn’t hold it against me, so why are you?” I growl. Do I feel like an asshole for some of the things I said and did to her during that time? Yes. And I have no excuses. The best I can do is show her I’m not a complete asshole.
Although, I’m no Prince Charming either. I’d rather shoot that fucker in the face.
“Not holding it against you. I just want to make sure it doesn’t go past that fucked up little foreplay shit you two do.”
“I’d never hurt her.” Anger fills me as I growl, getting to my feet. “I might want to strangle the little shit half the time and spank her the other half, but she's mine, Will. My fucking Omega. The idea of anyone laying a fucking hand on her makes me want to burn the world to the ground.”
Will grins, getting to his feet as Ian smirks like an idiot. Will claps me on the back. “Now that's what I’m talking about brother. Welcome to the Nova bandwagon. Trust me, it’s a fun place to be.”
“It really is,” Ian chuckles.
Rolling my eyes, I huff. “Watch her. If you see anything suspicious, call me,” I tell them as I head towards the garage door.
“Where are are you going?” Will asks.
“To the clubhouse.” I pause at the door. “I’m finding out who this Davis fucker is, and making sure he doesn’t fuck with me, my family, or my fucking Omega.”
