Madness.

Sheer madness.

Whether they’re together or alone, their mingling scents haunt me all over campus.

Nyx and Zephyr.

They both remind me of home. Nyx in the autumn, Zephyr the spring. When their scents invade my lungs, my teeth ache, as does my cock.

I’ve never wanted Nyx so badly in all the time I’ve known her, and that my desire for Zephyr is so strong so quickly makes me wary.

But I can feel their love for each other. Their absolute devotion.

And I find myself jealous.

I think… they may have bonded. It’s the only explanation for it all.

I dare not ask.

We may be free from the GBE’s immediate threat right now, having expelled them from the premises, but this war—one we Cursed have finally chosen to fight—is far from over. Forming a pack is still extremely dangerous.

I cannot endanger my Omegas. I will not.

“Both our teams in the UNA have gone dark.”

My attention snaps to Jory, his voice more grim than I’ve heard in a while.

He’s flanked by Willow and Caius, the three of them peering down into a bright three-dimensional map projected onto the table at the center of the room. The blue light begins to spot with red and yellow dots, like freckles, as Rodrigo Cruz steps forward from his place leaning against the far wall.

He’s a tall, lean man with a serious demeanor, and waves of Alpha energy roll off of him in a way I’ve never felt before. I don’t know if this energy has to do with his curse or not, but he is the unopposed leader of the rebellion. I assume, for a reason.

“We don’t have much time.” Rodrigo’s smooth voice rings clear through the room. “They were there to set our final phase in motion.” He frowns, palms on the edge of the table and leans forward. A glance at Willow. “Sitrep. I want everyone on the same page.”

Willow nods solemnly, moves a hand that grips a small device. The map changes to a close-up of a bustling city, buildings shooting up high above the tabletop. “Team Enki was deployed to New York City just over two months ago. Their mission had two goals.” The map moves again, buildings sink into the table until we’re underground in a tube station. “First, set up safe harbor for our next deployment. This objective wascompleted.” Another flick of her wrist and we’re back at street level where one large building rises high. “Second, infiltrate the Global Media headquarters, siphon the access codes, and clone key cards. That is where we lost the team.” She gestures at Jory with her chin before handing him the small device.

Jory waves his arm and the tall building is replaced by a shorter, sprawling building’s exterior, boxy and plain. “Team Marduk’s mission was to infiltrate this science facility on a small island off the south shore of Long Island.” Another wave and we’re viewing the three-dimensional building schematics. A red and yellow dot appear. “They sent these scans back to us before going dark. Their plan was to breach security here,” he gestures at the yellow dot on the main floor, “then head here,” the red dot in a sub-basement, “to free the prisoners.”

“Do we know what the prisoners were there for?” I ask before I can stop myself.

Caius looks at me. “It’s a science facility,” he says flatly. “I can assure you the reasons aren’t good.”

Jory clears his throat and speaks a little louder. “We believe this is the GBE’s replacement for Tenebrosa. It’s unnamed, and there are many more Cursed inside than Tenebrosa ever housed.” His head shakes, and I feel his anger build through my power. “They’ll never leave us alone until we make them.”

“Or we change the public’s opinion,” Willow chimes, her hand going to Jory’s back before she looks up at me. “We planned for our next deployments to publicly disseminate the truth about our history and the GBE’s current practices.”

“How?”

“We’re keeping that close to the chest until we find out what happened to Enki and Marduk.” Rodrigo holds his palm out to Jory, who tosses the controller to him. He catches it easily. “We considered sending in rescue teams, but we’ve got people on theground combing both areas. Once they have a handle on what’s happened, they’ll send word and we’ll make our next move.”

“What move is that?” I inquire.

The four rebellion members exchange glances before Rodrigo says, “We go on the offensive.”
