But there’s currently a gun pointed at my friend’s head by an old one who just made herself number two on my shitlist.
“You told Matteo where Levi was.” I piece the puzzle together. “That’s how he knew.”
“I gave Levi one last chance,” she says. “That night, I begged him to open his eyes. I’ve been standing in front of him this whole time, but it didn’t mean shit becauseyouwere always his number one.”
“So you had Matteoshoothim?”
She lifts her little head haughtily. “I never gave the order. However…I knew about it.”
I feel all the blood drain from my face.
Why didn’t I see it before? How did I not sense this?
Levi is somewhere, wounded in God knows how many places, and I’m standing here, in the middle of fuck knows where withthisbitch.
“This is a revolution, Bay. Old powers and heirs need to be taken down, and everything needs to start anew.”
She doesn’t bother to deny it.
And I’m glad she doesn’t because there’s nothing to second-guess.
I take a step forward, wishing for the gun in her palm to be on me and not Travis. “I’m going to kill you, bitch. You better get a head start now.”
Nessa pulls the hammer back with an unforgiving click. She’s going to shoot Travis, whether I make a move or not, if she’s already planned on it. “Did you hear what I fucking said?”
“Loud and clear.”
My nostrils flare at her nonchalance.
Her betrayal.
Everything.
“Leave town, Bay,” she volunteers. “This is only going to end up bloody and chaotic.”
“I’m counting on it.”
“Bay,” I hear Travis utter to my right, but my focus doesn’t stray to him. I won’t allow Nessa any more of the upper hand than she already has.
“Yeah?”
“Take him with you,” Nessa insists. “Matteo is going to off everyone. You included.”
See, that’s the thing.
He won’t.
Not right away.
He’ll make me watch everything he does, everyone he kills, and he’ll enjoy every single second of it.
“You reallyarea stupid bitch, Nessa,” I grind out. “AftereverythingI’ve told you about that guy…you still picked the wrong fucking side.”
“Depends on how you look at it. Levi had to go.”
“Because he wouldn’tfuckyour stupid, silly ass?” I volley back. “Get a fuckin’ grip. You just outed yourself on why. You couldn’t take rejection, and now you just flat-out betrayed him.”
Her eyes remain placid and cool on me. “You don’t know what he said. It’s everything youdidn’twant.”
