I picked her hand up and laid it over my chest, pressing her fingers flat and savoring the feel of her skin on mine.

“Jessa, in a world like this, it's everything.”

She bit her lip, gaze dropping to my chest and I lifted her chin until she was looking back at me again.

“I will be the best of mates for you, if you let me,” I promised.“What were the chances I’d ever escape slavery, that I’d survive the journey that brought me here, that I’d take shelter in a random building and find you?You were meant to be mine.”

Her fingers dug into my skin and she lurched up onto her toes, lips finding mine in a soft, sudden kiss that surprised me.I wrapped my arms around her waist and pulled her tight to me, slicking my tongue into her mouth and running my hands down her spine.

Jessa moaned, scraping her fingers into my hair and holding me captive as we kissed. My heart pounded as I held her, promising her with every breath, every press of my mouth on hers, that this was exactly where we both belonged.

A shout came from the camp and cheers erupted behind us.Jessa jerked back and looked over her shoulder.

“That sounds good,” she said breathlessly.I stared down at her flushed cheeks, wishing our kiss hadn’t been interrupted, not willing to let go of her yet.

“Two healthy sons!”Kes bellowed from the entrance of the building, holding his fist in the air.

The camp roared in approval and Jessa beamed up at me.

“Holy cow, twins,” she laughed.

I squeezed her tighter and smiled at her relief.

“Children are hope,” I said, nodding at the stamping, yelling crowd of males celebrating the first turochs born on Earth.

Her eyes widened as she took in the near violent joy of the camp.Every male here would fight to the death for Amy and her sons, every male here would contribute to raising them and caring for them.

“I’ll think about it,” she said.“I guess this isn’t as scary as I thought it was.”

“Turochs throw wildparties,” I said, watching as a group of them poured at least ten different kinds of alcohol into a barrel.

“Don’t drink that,” Hope warned with a shudder.“It’s always vile, no matter what they combine.”

I scratched Sal’s fat belly as he snored in my arms. The celebration of the twins’ birth was in full swing within an hour of Kes announcing the mother and babies were well, and I felt a little bad about how loud things were getting when Amy was probably exhausted.
