A blush came to his face, but I waved it away

“Just tell me the truth, Liam. It’s important.”

I felt bad throwing everything at him, but it was going to be worth it. I think I knew what our problem was.

“Yes.”

“But you wouldn’t sleep with her again, given the chance? I mean, like, even if I didn’t exist?”

“No. Not even remotely. She can throw herself at me as much as she wants. I’m never going back there.”

And then, I knew for sure what was wrong with Liam and I. With a huge smile, I grabbed his face and kissed him. Not because I thought it would affect anything but just because I was so excited. When I lifted my head, I started to drag him toward the edge of the pool.

“I have to go.”

Liam looked at me, completely confused. He was freaking adorable right now. I started to apologize to everyone, but I didn’t stop dragging Liam.

“Liam, please. I… I figured it out. I think. But I need an hour or two. Can you bring me home?”

I was already in the dressing room throwing on clothes. There wouldn’t be much time before the festival and I needed to make sure I fixed this before then. Tossing my wet hair back up, I rushed out and was glad to see Liam had changed.

“Please tell me what’s going on.”

Although I felt confident that I was right, it didn’t seem fair to get Liam’s hopes up too much.

“You just said that we aren’t crying uncle until tomorrow. That doesn’t give me a lot of time. I will explain everything at the festival later, but I have to go, right now, so I don’t run out of time. I’m sorry. Please. Just trust me.”

I had already dragged him to his car and was glad he slid into the driver’s seat without much more argument. As he was driving, I lifted my head in the air and smelled the sweet scent of the air. It smelled like the future, and I couldn’t wait. When he pulled up outside my apartment, I smiled at him.

“Don’t be mad.”

“I’m just confused.”

“I know. I’m sorry. You will still come tonight, right? I just need two hours. Then I will be here waiting for you.”

Liam smiled.

“Of course.”

I leaned over and kissed his cheek again. He really seemed sad, so I decided that hope might not be that bad.

“Liam, I… I’m going to get our spark, and then I’m going to romance the hell out of you at this festival. So be prepared.”

His jaw dropped slightly, and I reminded him that he only had two hours before his cute butt needed to come back before rushing out of the car and into my house. Tonight was going to be the best night of my life, but the next hour wasn’t going to be pleasant at all.

Chapter 26

Isabella

It took me fifteen minutes to run to the auto shop, but I needed to get to it before it closed. I was out of breath and probably looked like a wreck. My hair was frizzy from the pool, I smelled like chlorine, and I was pretty sweaty.

“Uncle Leo, I need to borrow Marco for five minutes.”

They both looked at me, surprised, but I grabbed Marcos’s hand and dragged him into the back office. He went to speak, but I held up my hand to keep him quiet.

“Please don’t talk. Right now, I just need you to listen, and if you ever really cared about me, you will respect that.”

Marco nodded and I took a deep breath.
