Faith nodded and then looked at her boyfriend. The dude hadn’t taken his arm from around her the whole time we were talking.
“He can come. Long as he can keep a secret.”
The couple smiled and fell in step next to me. I quickly told her my plan and prayed she would agree. It would take some of her time, which I knew was precious, and it required them to come to my Halloween party, which, by the way, had no guest list yet.
“You can invite anyone you want. I know we will need a lot of people to pull it off, and I don’t know many people here. Literally, invite the whole school. But please, I really want to do something special and I think Isabella would love it.”
We had reached the football field. Faith smiled.
“Will this help your whole spark thing?”
“I’m hoping.”
She pressed a kiss to my cheek and smiled.
“Of course, I will help you. I will start recruiting people right away.”
Her boyfriend looked at me curiously and then, finally, grinned.
“I owe you too. Like… everything really, so I will handle getting people to your place. Just text Faith your address and I promise you will have more people than you have room for.”
Faith giggled.
“I seriously doubt you have to worry about Liam’s place running out of space.”
He looked at Faith, confused, but she rushed on.
“I figure when we can get together and work it all out. Your woman is here. You should probably get over there.”
I saw Isabella looking over at me curiously and nodded. I thanked them both again and told them they could use my yacht whenever they wanted. As they walked away, I rushed over to Isabella, grinning. She was biting her lower lip.
“Was that Faith?”
I nodded.
“And her boyfriend. I was enlisting their help to spread the word about my Halloween party since I don’t know anyone. She owed me a favor.”
Isabella seemed to want more details but then looked to the bleachers and remembered why we came here to begin with.
“Tell me you guys didn’t come out here to make out all the time.”
Rolling her eyes, she shook her head and grabbed my hand.
“No, we just ate lunch here. Mostly.”
I glared at the back of her head. Mostly meant they did come here to make out. Now that I had met Marco, it made me feel sick just thinking about her kissing him. How could she possibly have a spark with such a jerk and not have it with me? Was this the price I was paying for being a former bad guy? The cost of being a jackass for sixteen years: the potential love of my life? I wasn’t ready to pay that.
“So, you just want to eat lunch?”
She shook her head.
“No. I want us to focus on the ‘mostly’ part.”
I stopped.
“Is this a trick? We agreed—”
“Hush, and get your mind out of the gutter.”
