“What? I brush after lunch. I care about my oral hygiene. You’re lucky. I just restocked toothbrushes.”
I looked at him, bewildered.
“I mean, I want to try to keep kissing you, but I have to draw the line somewhere.”
Laughing, I rolled my eyes and walked over to the water fountain. I mean, if the guy could watch me vomit, he could watch me brush my teeth. When I was done, I looked at the toothbrush and paste and started to wonder what to do with it. Liam held out a sandwich bag.
“We’ll take them with us, just in case.”
Then, I blurted out, “I don’t want to go home.”
My father had extended our curfews tonight and I wanted to spend my time with Liam. He closed his locker and smiled.
“Good, because I wasn’t planning on taking you home.”
Surprised, I looked at him.
“You weren’t?”
“Listen, I like spending time with you. Whether we are stuck just being best friends or not. I’m keeping you with me as long as I can.”
Unable to control myself, I threw my arms around him.
“Thank you. You are the greatest friend I have ever had.”
“I know, I know. It’s ridiculous that you aren’t madly in love with me yet.”
I linked my arm through his as we made our way outside.
“Hey, that’s a two-way street, you know. It’s not like you’re hopelessly in love with me, either.”
He rolled his eyes, and as soon as the cool night air hit me, Liam was already slipping his jacket off and wrapping it around me. I slid my arms inside of it and held it close in front. Liam’s hand found mine and we walked to his car in silence. I loved that I could enjoy silence with Liam just as much as conversation. It was a perfect balance. In my ordinarily chaotic life, it was just what I needed.
Chapter 19
Liam
I kept thinking about Faith’s theory. This whole time I had been assuming the kiss would ignite the spark, but maybe Faith was right. Maybe the spark is really what should be igniting the kiss. But that had to be there already. I mean, we were clearly attached emotionally. So, what else could I possibly do?
“You seem more pensive than usual.”
Isabella always appreciated our silences. I knew she barely had a moment to think when she was home. I actively made sure to shut up sometimes just to give her some peace. She was right, though. This silence had lasted the whole drive here.
I pulled up to the valet and tossed him my keys.
“Evening, Harry. Is Humphrey on duty tonight?”
“Yes, sir.”
Crossing to the passenger side of the car, I offered my hand to Isabella. She hesitantly looked at me.
“I know we are trying to find a spark, but I have my limits too. We are not getting a hotel room.”
Laughing, I took her hand in mine and reminded Harry to keep the car close. I set an alarm on my phone again and Isabella looked at me suspiciously.
“Trust me, Bella. This is actually on the assignment sheet for our project, so we are killing two birds with one stone.”
We entered the hotel and I spotted Humphrey immediately. He looked around before he approached but his eyes were gleaming.
