“Would have been hotter if it was you.”

Okay, so maybe that was pushing the line a little bit. Both our dates were standing right next to us, after all.

Isabella glared.

“I’m standing right here!”

“Sai, sono un flirt!”

I tried to give her my puppy dog eyes and then winked at her, and she shook her head.

“I can’t believe that was one of the phrases you looked up.”

She hit me in the back of the head.

“Sei così stupido.”

Faith laughed again. Her laugh was seriously angelic.

“I don’t know Italian, but I’m pretty sure you’re in the doghouse now.”

“Aren’t I always?”

Faith sighed and reached out to touch my cheek. Damn it. Why did that one little touch have more of an effect on me than kissing Isabella? More importantly, why was there still such a spark after all these years?

“I’m really sorry we lost touch. We should fix that.”

I smiled at her.

“I’d like that. I’m having a Halloween party in a couple of weeks. I’ll text you.”

She smiled.

“That would be awesome.”

“You still have the same number?”

Faith nodded, and I was glad she didn’t seem surprised that I had kept her number. For a minute, no one spoke, and then Faith’s eyes widened and she suddenly grabbed my arm.

“I know this is crazy, but I actually need a huge favor. I’d owe you. Big time.”

This was interesting. I smiled.

“Anything for you, Faith. You know that.”

She beamed and then looked at her… whatever he was… and Isabella.

“Why don’t you two go and dance for a minute? We’ll be right back.”

Then, before I knew what was happening, Faith dragged me away and I had no choice but to watch Isabella get escorted to the dance floor. Super. Her first dance wasn’t even going to be with me. Not that I wasn’t happy to have Faith at my side. She and I had that kind of relationship where years would pass, but when we did meet again, it was like we never left each other.

She rushed into her speech, and within a few minutes, I agreed to help her out. I did so with a bit of a grudge, but I really would have done anything for her. Faith threw her arms around me and thanked me a million times before we started heading back to our dates. We were almost there when I stopped her. I had to make sure, just one final time.

“Are you sure about this?”

She looked toward her date and nodded her head.

“Surer about this than anything in my life.”
