“Jenny, these two are history partners as well. I met them yesterday at the trampoline park.”

Jenny looked toward Isabella again.

“Wanna switch partners?”

Shaking her head, Isabella moved a bit closer to me, and I started to caress her back to make her feel more at ease.

“I’m kind of attached to Liam. Aren’t you having a good time with Josh? He told us that you two really seemed to be exactly what was missing from each other’s lives. He was totally psyched.”

“Josh gets totally psyched about everything.”

Well, there went that momentary attraction. That was a total bitch comment. The old me would have laughed and probably stolen her from Josh, but apparently the new me wasn’t into bitches anymore.

Right on cue, Isabella chimed in, “That must be awesome. His energy seems to be infectious. I’m sure you must appreciate that. He’s not bad on the eyes either.”

Jenny’s gaze shifted to Josh.

“He’s not unfortunate-looking, I suppose. Although I wasn’t exactly happy with the history assignment, Josh has sort of plowed his way into my life, and I am not altogether unhappy to have him as a partner.”

Josh grinned.

“You’ve never mentioned thinking I was not unfortunate-looking before.”

To this, the young lady rolled her eyes.

“Josh, you know you’re good-looking and that I wouldn’t be here right now if I didn’t enjoy your company. It’s pointless to argue that.”

The guy looked like he had just won the lotto. Someone started to approach; I was amused when a small gasp escaped Isabella. The new gentleman looked identical to Jenny. Dark hair, green eyes, that look that stole your soul. Apparently, Isabella appreciated him as much as I had admired Jenny.

“Are you ready to leave yet?”

“Can we stay a little longer?”

Josh seemed to ignore the tension between them.

“Isabella, Liam, this is Ashton. He’s Jenny’s twin brother.”

Ashton seemed to finally notice us and attempted a smile.

“Hello, sorry. It’s nice to meet you both.”

There was some silent exchange between the siblings, and Jenny tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. It seemed rehearsed almost.

A moment later, her brother noted, “Fifteen minutes.”

Josh sighed, and it seemed like his evening was not turning out quite the way he wanted. It almost felt like we had intruded on them, even though he had offered the invitation to us. Ashton turned his questioning eyes toward us.

“So, how do you two know Josh?”

There was a quick exchange between Jenny and Josh again, and before I could respond, Josh jumped in.

“Liam and I are old friends.”

Isabella slipped her hand in mine. I wondered if she wanted me to play along or tell the truth.

“Did Josh ever tell you the story about how he and Liam once had a pizza-eating contest? They both got so sick afterward.”

Jenny looked up at Isabella with a bit of gratitude, something that seemed odd for her, and I just smiled. Josh pretended to glare.
