“Did you ever sleep with Marco?”

Both Rosalina and I looked at her, shocked.

“Frannie! You can’t ask people that.”

Francesca rolled her eyes.

“You’re my sister. It’s okay to ask you.”

Glaring, I thrust more food into my mouth.

“It most certainly is not okay. It is also none of your business—andyou are way too young to be thinking about such things. You need to say three Hail Marys before bed.”

My sister looked disappointed but ended the discussion. Grabbing my book bag, I told them to watch the little ones and headed to the roof. Pulling out my phone, I was about to text Liam when I saw I had received a message already.

I have had a terrible day. Are you still up for making dinner and watching Netflix tomorrow? I really need a friendly face.

What more could I ask for? I had just been about to text him the same thing. Suddenly relaxed and happy to know I would have an escape from the chaos of my family, I responded.

Si, perfetto.

Chapter 10

Week2–Wednesday

Liam

Cooking with Isabella was probably one of the best things I have ever done. After yesterday, I was ready for an evening of fun and my new friend was definitely delivering. She had brought over all the ingredients for one of her restaurant’s chicken parmesan dinners, and we couldn’t stop laughing as we tried to make it.

“I have to say this, but I’m actually impressed with your cooking skills.”

I smiled at her praise as we finally placed dinner in the oven. I pulled her apron string and laughed.

“I told you that I cooked. You have such little faith in me.”

Shaking her head, she set a timer and started to boil a pot of water to make pasta.

“What should we do while we wait?”

“Since making out doesn’t seem to be an option, tell me more about yourself. Are you looking at colleges right now?”

Leaning on the counter, Isabella looked at me and sighed.

“I am, but without a scholarship, I may just end up taking a few classes at the community college like my brother. The future is a bit scary for me, to be honest. I really haven’t found that thing I’m passionate about.”

I could relate to her. Everyone had assumed I would follow in my father’s footsteps, but after last year, it just felt like my path was somewhere else. Unfortunately, I had no idea where that path led just yet.

“We’re still young, right? Most people leave high school without a solid plan. That’s why colleges exist. I have no doubt you will figure it out.”

She smiled at me and nodded.

“Yes. I’m not completely stressing about it just yet. What about you? Do you have any plans?”

As she spoke, she continued to prepare dinner and tossed me some ingredients to make a salad. As I cut one of the cucumbers, I sighed.

“Nothing. I feel like I was meant to do something other than just become a businessman or lawyer. I am debating just traveling for a bit after senior year. You know… try to keep figuring out who I am.”

Isabella sighed.
