Laughing, I walked back to the driver’s side and winked.

“Nine, okay? Don’t forget.”

She nodded.

I waited to make sure she got into the apartment building safely before speeding off. Things were definitely looking brighter.

The cost of getting partnered with Isabella: the ten dozen roses I sent to Mrs. Rogers the next day and my undying gratitude.

Chapter 6

Week1–Friday

Isabella

Liam and I had worked out most of the details of our fake relationship and I was starting to think our plan might actually work. We were going out after school today. Since it wasn’t a school night, I was allowed to stay out until eleven. I think my parents were just happy I was leaving the house.

I had even made an effort to dress nice and put on makeup. If I was going to convince them that I was dating Liam, I couldn’t just mope around like usual. I had to make it appear as if I was trying again.

“I’m sorry it’s not the Ferrari, but we need some trunk space.”

I looked at his new ride, an Aston Martin Vantage, lime green, and suddenly realized he must be way richer than I thought. And believe me, I thought he was super rich.

“How many cars do you have?”

“Personally, or like… the family as a whole?”

I glared.

“Personally.”

He opened the door for me and I relaxed into the leather seats.

“Four.”

My mouth dropped as he walked around and hopped in the car next to me. Four cars. I didn’t even have a driver’s license. I tried to stop being envious. Now it felt like he was more billionaire rich. Really, though, I kept my emotions in check. I didn’t care about how rich he was, honestly. All that mattered to me was what kind of person he was. Billionaire or not, so far he was just a really nice guy.

“Where are we going that requires trunk space?”

He smiled slyly.

“The mall. We’re going allPretty Womanon you today.”

Unable to stop myself, I burst out laughing. Rosalina would be dying right now. Then I frowned.

“Am I that bad?”

Liam winced.

“No, of course not, but… well, we have a date tomorrow and there is a certain expectation. I promise it won’t be crazy. Just a few things. I don’t want to change you. We just need to ramp your look up a tiny bit.”

I tried to act insulted, but the truth was, it would be amazing to have some new clothes to wear. Also, we were doing this for him, and if he thought I needed to look different, I was good with it. May as well play the part. He put the top down to distract me, and I closed my eyes and smelled the air. I refused to believe anyone could be upset with the wind blowing over them. Though, it might be a bit better if we were driving on the coast. The sea air always smelled wonderful.

“Where is our date tomorrow?”

Liam smiled.

“We’re going ice skating.”
