“What?”
I pass him my phone.
“Kat,” he says, his eyes clashing with mine. “I’m sorry.”
He drops back, his forefinger and thumb rubbing his eyes.
I stop and draw in a deep breath before sinking back onto the edge of the bed, my hand reaching out, finding Jax’s chest.
My brain whirls, unable to focus. My racing heartbeat is all I can concentrate on. Flexing my fingers over Jax’s taut skin, I marvel at his beautiful physique, and the fact he’s here with me.
Fuck it!
I bite my lip, suddenly trying to suppress a giggle.
My chest lightens, and my head feels slightly dizzy.
Dropping back on my pillow, I stare up at the ceiling. Then turn my head to stare at Jaxson, who’s developed a deep groove between his eyebrows.
My lips spread into a grin.
“Fuck it,” I say, only this time it’s out aloud.
“Kat?” Jax looks at me like I’ve lost my mind.
I roll onto my side, supporting my head on my arm.
“The cat is out of the bag. My brothers know, the board, our investors, they’ll all know. I should be panicking, but I realise, I’m tired of hiding, worrying what everyone else thinks.”
Jax opens and closes his mouth. When his phone pings, he drops back with a groan.
Scooting across the bed, I rest my head on his shoulder, looking at his screen.
ELIJAH:
Pen tells me Kat’s a big girl, and to keep my nose out.
I do laugh now as Jax covers his eyes.
I love my friend. Only imagining what Pen said to Elijah when he received that photo.
His phone pings again. This time, it’s Caleb.
CALEB:
Knew it! I’m cupid.
CALEB:
You have a change of clothes waiting in room 350. Mason delivered your case.
It’s my turn to groan. All I need is my baby brother thinking he set me up with Jax.
Jax pulls me into his arms, kissing my temple.
“At least they don’t want to castrate you,” I say.
“But that picture is obviously out there.”
