“I wonder if the cabin will have an open fire. That would be romantic.” Isabelle grabbed my scarves and started folding them.

I didn’t answer. That kid read too many romance books. Truth was, I wasn’t worried about the cold. I was worried about a lot of other things. I’d been single, and in charge of my own destiny, for over thirty years. I wasn’t sure I wanted to give that up—not even for Dan.

“Oh my gosh, are you going to fly? Like, in Dan’s plane?” Isabelle asked, eyes wide. How had she gone from a romantic fire to a plane flight in the blink of an eye?

“Yes, Dan is flying us to Perisher.”

She cocked her head and studied me. “Do you think he’s going to propose?”

I nearly choked. “We’ve only been on three dates.”

“Three dates in ten days,” Taylor said.

“Yeah, you know at your age, you shouldn’t waste time,” Isabelle said, casual as can be, not even looking up to deliver that blow.

I shook my head. “You know, at your age, you should respect your elders.”

“Will this mean I get paid for my whole two weeks of work experience?” Isabelle asked.

I turned to her. “What?”

Taylor chuckled. “Your future betrothed bribed your granddaughter. Every date earns her another day of paid work experience.”

I raised my eyebrows. “Did he just?”

Isabelle’s eyes were alight. “Oh yeah, and we agreed a kiss would earn an extra day.”

“Mmm.”

Isabelle’s brow furrowed and her mouth twisted. “He hasn’t told me how many days I have now.”

Taylor smirked and gave me a wink. “Sex would probably earn you a lot more than one day.”

Isabelle’s jaw went slack.

Taylor nodded. “Oldies really like to get it on. STDs are prevalent in some nursing homes.”

I took a step back. It was nothing to joke about. Would Dan even want to? My perky bits weren’t exactly perky anymore. And it’s not like he was a young colt.

Isabelle clapped her hands over her ears. “La la la.” She stood up and walked out of the room, muttering about too much information for her innocent brain. She didn’t fool me, though.

Taylor laughed. “That’s one way to get rid of teenagers.”

I smiled. Things had been going better for Taylor and the kids since she and Ciaron had repaired their marriage. They were talking more and joking around. It warmed my heart.

“Are you worried about being stuck with Dan for four days?” she asked.

“Four days is a long time.”

“If he irritates you, just go for a walk to the lodge or pub or something. I doubt he will, though, after all, this is Dan we’re talking about.”

“Hmm.” That certainly was an option. Dan had said the newly established cabins were set apart from the resort but were still within walking distance.

“A weekend away doesn’t need to mean more than that if you don’t want it to.”

“When did you get so wise?”

“I got it from you.” She smiled. “But seriously, just enjoy his company.” She waggled her eyebrows. “I’m sure he’ll enjoy yours.”
