I hummed as I plated the fresh bread that Graham had dropped off for me. I looked at the tray: sausage, eggs, bread, waffles… “Ooh, syrup.” I headed to the fridge and grabbed it and put it on the plate. I spun around. “Juice. Or should I get water…maybe both. Definitely both.”
I grabbed everything and cursed when I heard the movement upstairs. I’d been planning to be there when Kian woke up. But my bear also wanted to feed him, and of course, I could have run out and grabbed something, but I wanted to cook it for him with my hands in our home. My bear was riding me, especially with our mate pregnant.
Which is something you still need to tell him.And I would. I promised never to lie to him, so no more waiting. I’d gotten sidetracked last night…a lot. I couldn’t help smiling, thinking about how acquainted with his body I’d gotten last night.
I heard the toilet flush and grabbed my tray and got moving. I hurried up the stairs and opened the door to the bedroom just as Kian came out of the bathroom.
“I come bearing breakfast.” I held the tray up and walked it over to the sitting area in my room, then paused. “Actually bed or sofa?” I asked.
Kian came up to me and wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and leaned his head on my back. “You made breakfast?”
“Well, I had to feed my mate. We did burn quite a few calories last night.”
“And this morning,” Kian helpfully added.
“And this morning,” I agreed, smiling. “So breakfast,” I said.
Kian came around front and went on his tiptoes. I happily obliged, kissing him sweetly. We finally pulled back, and I said, “Go on, sit down. Let me feed my mate.”
He grinned and hurried over to the sofa and sat with his leg folded under him. I loved the fact that he’d grabbed my T-shirt from last night and how it hung off him. I really liked him being surrounded by my scent.
I put the tray down on his lap, and before I could straighten, he grabbed my face and planted a kiss on my lips. When he pulled back, he whispered, “This is so sweet. Thank you.”
“My pleasure.” I grinned. Kian’s belly rumbled before I could add anything else. I chuckled and picked up a waffle and held it to his lips. “Open,” I instructed.
“You know, that’s how some parts of this morning began,” he teased.
I leered at him playfully. “Don’t tempt me. Now open.”
He did as I asked, and I fed the waffle to him. My bear purred in happiness when Kian’s eyes lit up. He chewed quickly and grinned. “That’s soo good. I didn’t know you could cook.”
“Well, isn’t that part of the whole ‘being together’ thing…getting to know things about each other?” I pointed out as I took a bite of the waffle. He didn’t need to know that this was a just-add-water mix.
Kian beamed. “Most definitely, so what’s your favorite color?”
I snorted. “How very first date… Although I don’t think anyone ever actually asks that on a first date.”
“I can’t say I know either way. I’ve only had three first dates, although I guess two. Does our first time at the café count?” he asked.
“It does to me,” I said. “I should have stayed away from you. I’d been trying, but when Rhys called me and said something had happened to your car, I rushed down there so fast. And there you were.”
“I thought you didn’t like me,” Kian admitted. “I remember seeing you the day I pulled up, and you had this weird squinty look in your eyes and a deep frown on your face, and it was like our gazes collided, and you turned and left.” Kian lifted another waffle and chewed, then swallowed. “All I could think was crap, maybe moving here hadn’t been the best idea.”
“Trust me, before I even scented you, I thought you were beautiful.” I chuckled, shaking my head. “Then there was a gust of wind that carried your scent right to me.” I cupped his face. “I wanted to run to you and pick you up in my arms and never let go. I said a thank you to the Gods for not forgetting about me and sending me my mate. And then I started thinking about how to tell you. How you’d react… Would you run screaming?” I pushed down on my chest, just remembering. “Then I thought maybe it would be okay if you were close by. I could at least see you.”
“Wow.” Kian’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“Then my bear ended up at Rhys’s, and there you were. I wasn’t paying attention, but I bet my bear scented you and just had to get close. By the time I realized what was happening, I kind of wanted you to meet him. And he wanted you to meet him.”
“Even though it took ten years off my life,” Kian laughed, “but I don’t know. It was weird. I was also drawn to you.”
“Well, when you’re ready, he wants to meet you officially,” I said. All the while holding my breath, waiting to hear what he thought.
Kian beamed at me and kissed me soundly. “I would love to.”
My bear hummed his contentment. “Later,” I said. “Till then, eat.”
Kian did as I asked, but he sighed. “I have to submit a file to a client today, and I have a Skype meeting with a potential new client, and I can’t wear your clothes. I’ve never done the walk of shame. I have to do the walk of shame.” Weirdly, he didn’t sound upset about it, just amused.
