“And who the fuck would that be?” He felt the gun press against the back of his head, and even though his tiger wanted to burst free and maul the fucker, Nix didn’t move a muscle.
“Like I said, I believe we have a mutual friend,” Nix reiterated calmly.
“And who might that be?” Tre asked conversationally, like they were having a drink at a bar.
“Anton,” Nix replied simply.
The gun didn’t move. “I don’t fucking know no Anton.”
He knew that was a lie. They’d been led there because of some scribblings in the documents Ronin had grabbed from the doctor he’d visited before Ollie was kidnapped.
“I believe you do.” Nix said, not adding anything else.
The gun finally was pulled away … and the man came around so they were facing each other. Nix didn’t show it, but he mentally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Anton, huh,” he said.
His shoulder raised and dropped. “He provided me with a … service, but he seems to have taken off …” He let his words trail off.
“Shifty fucker, that one. Not surprised, probably pissed someone off told him dealing with the shifters was no good, humans no they pay well and less hassle.”
He ground his teeth but managed a smile even though his skin crawled. “Ready to talk business?”
He inclined his head before adding,“Tre is fine. Continue. What is it you want?”
For a moment, Nix frowned until he realized his earlier question if he might call the man Tre was being answered.
“Word on the street is you’re the man to find for certain special request.”
“Is that so?” Tre raised a brow.
“Mmm, a little birdie told me you’re the man to find for omegas, especially if one would like to grow the family, if you catch my meaning.”
“Can’t say I do, be more specific,” Tre said, folding his arms in front of him.
Nix nodded, then added, “I hear you have omegas for sale, especially if one has the intention of getting them pregnant. I also hear there’s a tidy profit to be made, putting their babies up for adoption. Is that correct?”
“Something like that. And what can you do to help me out? Or would I be helping you out?” Tre inquired.
“I believe this is what you call mutually beneficial.” Nix let the corner of his lips lift slightly.
“Oh?” Tre raised a brow, but Nix could read interest in his eyes.
“For conversation’s sake, how about we assume I know some people that could be interested … that I could bring into the mix. They are healthy and conveniently wealthy, and their pretty little wives definitely won’t be asking questions,” Nix said. “You’d be paid well if you’d agree to partner up with me. Smart business for everyone.”
Tre walked over to his seat and lowered himself, then leaned back and crossed his arms in front of him, seemingly intrigued. “Go on.”
Nix smiled. “I’m looking for a special omega for this job. I have a client with very particular tastes, so of course, I’d have to run the omegas through a series of questions and tests, just to make sure I pick the right one.” Nix pretended to think about, “Shouldn’t take me more than a few days.” He put his hands up. “Promise I won’t get in your way, but it’s necessary in order to start the process of our partnership. So, are you interested?” Nix asked.
“Well, I’m always interested when money is involved,” Tre said with a smirk. “I could definitely be persuaded to work with you and your men. How much are we talking?” he asked.
Nix grinned. “Depends on the omega and how fast they produce the healthy offspring, but my men are very wealthy, and of course, half upfront, and half after the omega has given birth.” He put his arm out, presenting his hand to Tre. “Do we have a deal? I’d like to get started right away.”
“We have a deal.” Tre took his hand and shook it. “You can even use a room within the warehouse, so you can have complete privacy when you ‘question’ the omegas.”
Nix smirked. “Perfect. Then let’s get on with it.” Nix wanted to get on with it. He wanted to get the omegas out of here. Who the hell put shock collars on people? But more than that, he could feel it. He was close. So close to speaking to his blood and gathering more information about him. It was his first step to unlocking the secrets of his past.
Tre directed him through a door, which brought Nix to a room with several omegas that they hadn’t even been aware were being held in the warehouse. He had no idea how many Tre held captive there, but even one was too fucking many. He had to hold back his tiger when he looked around the room. Terrified omegas and pups were all gathered there.
