“I have my receptionist, and she handles that job quite nicely,” Quinn muttered. He turned away from Aiden’s penetrating gaze.

“You have a receptionist that handles more than just appointments and answering the phone? I’m saying that you would be able to hire someone who can be your personal assistant and help with all the paperwork, scheduling, and whatever else needs to be done while you’re away from the office. Doesn’t that sound like a great plan?”

“Okay, you must really be desperate.” Quinn studied the man.

Mr. Cross simply shrugged, his face a mask betraying nothing.

As much as Quinn didn’t want to admit it, it did sound tempting. If he took on Aiden’s home and had someone doing all the boring office stuff, he could spend more time at home. He’d never liked the paperwork anyway.

“And you only want my services because you feel the owner would be best?” Quinn double checked. Aiden nodded, and while Quinn still wasn’t sure how his thinking came about or if it even made any sense, he found that he was considering it.

“Am I going to regret this?” Quinn straight up asked the man.

Aiden shot him a smile and shook his head. “Not if I can help it.”

What could it hurt? It sounded insane, but if it didn’t work out, then he would just cut his losses and go back to working in the office himself. The man had already shot down most of his workforce anyway. “Okay. I’ll tell you what. We’ll give it a week trial.”

The alpha’s face brightened considerably, and he seemed almost giddy.

Quinn shook his head. “Let me make a call to the office.”

Aiden smiled. “Fantastic, I’ll leave you to it.”

He left Quinn in the foyer, who took a moment to call Natalie and see about getting things set up.

“Parker’s Cleaning, Natalie speaking.”

“Hey, Nat. Will you put out an ad for a personal assistant, please.”

“What’s wrong? Is everything okay?” He heard the worry in her voice.

“Yeah, everything’s fine… I think. I’m going to be away from the office more than usual since I’ll be taking on the task of cleaning Mr. Cross’ home. Once they’re hired, I know that you can help train them to fit in perfectly.”

“Sure thing, Quinn. I’ll get someone right away. You sure you wanna do this?” Disbelief laced her tone.

“Yeah, he must be eccentric and feels only the owner can do the cleaning to his expectations.” He blew a breath out between his lips. “Thanks, Nat.” With that, Quinn disconnected the call.

He finally took a second to glance around the large foyer. Quinn wasn’t sure what he’d just agreed to, but there was a part of him that couldn’t help questioning Aiden’s true motives. None of it made sense.

“Are you ready?” Aiden asked as he came back in the foyer.

As ready as I’ll ever be.Quinn forced a smile. “Show me around,” he said. With those words, his new whatever-this-was began.

Aiden

Finally, he’d gotten Quinn in his house. Okay, that sounded very serial killer-y.

Dial it back, Cross.

It had taken some time to get here and several instances of untoward behavior that he wasn’t proud of, but finally, things were looking up.

He hadn’t expected Quinn to get started the same day, but the man called one of his staff members to drop off a van with the cleaning supplies and equipment. In the meantime, he started with what Aiden had.

Now that Aiden had Quinn there, he had to decide what the next step would be. He was glad to finally have an opening with the omega, but Aiden had to admit he had no idea how to go from this to meeting his children. He hadn’t really come up with a plan for that since he’d been too busy trying to find reasons to get rid of the other cleaners.

Yeah, it was definitely a work in progress, and Aiden knew he couldn’t rush things. He couldn’t push the man too much or Quinn would get suspicious and end up hightailing it out of there.
