“And I will kiss you anytime,” Mikhail said, then kissed Rowan again before adding, “Anytime.”

He finally put Rowan down but held on to his hand as he led him to the walk-in wardrobe where he finally let Rowan’s hand go because he had to kneel down in front of his suitcase and unzip it to get the Boots bags he’d hidden there.

When he got to his feet, Rowan had his hands out expectantly.

“You know it doesn’t change anything between us if you are or you aren’t.” Mikhail needed Rowan to know that.

“Course it does, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

He nodded and handed the pregnancy test to Rowan.

“Need some help?” Mikhail asked.

Rowan shook his head at him. “I think I know the drill. Hold and shake, right?”

“Cheeky bugger,” Mikhail responded, chuckling and shaking his head.

Ro stuck his tongue out at him, and Mik couldn’t help pulling him into his body. He nipped Rowan’s bottom lip, and his cock thickened at the sounds his mate made.

It took all his strength to step back, and he wiped his face as he groaned. Being around Rowan was a test of his restraint.

“I should… go, you know… this.” Ro’s voice was breathy.

“Yeah, we have all the time in the world for this and more.” And Mikhail meant that almost literally.

Rowan nodded and they exited the walk-in. While Ro went to the bathroom, he detoured to the bedroom and sat on the bed.

Mik knew it was possible that everything was a coincidence and that Ro could have a stomach bug or some other viral infection, and truth was, even if that was the case, he was okay because now he was sure that he and Rowan had a chance… more than a chance.

As he sat there, he checked his watch every thirty seconds. He knew the test took about three minutes max, but he wasn’t sure how long had passed, so he waited a little longer, this time keeping track until it had been eight minutes. Mik got up from the bed and walked over to the bathroom. He leaned his ear against the door, not that he had to.

“Everything okay in there?” Mikhail called out.

“Uh… yeah?” Ro didn’t sound too sure.

“Can I come in?”

“Sure.”

Even though it sounded a lot like a question, Mik pushed the doors apart to find Rowan sitting on the leather bench in the middle of the bathroom.

“Should I even ask?” Mik stared at his mate sitting hunched over on the bench.

“When people say that, they’re technically asking. Although I guess they’re asking if they should ask, right?” Rowan didn’t look his way.

Mikhail wasn’t sure what point Rowan was trying to make, so he simply said, “Right.”

Ro nodded, but Mik was pretty sure it wasn’t in agreement or acknowledgment. When he finally looked up at Mikhail, there was a dazed look on his face. “I’m pregnant.”

Mik’s heart jumped in his chest, joy washing over him. He moved so he could squat in front of Rowan. “Are you going to bolt again?” Although his words were teasing, there was a part of him that was actually worried that might be the case.

Twenty-Three

Rowan

Mikhail’s question managed to snap him out of his stupor. Even though he’d tried for lightness, Rowan could hear the real worry in his tone.

He met Mikhail’s eyes and gave him what he hoped was a smile, but he wasn’t sure he quite hit the mark. “No, I am not going to bolt.”
