Sixteen
Mikhail
Last night with Rowan was the best night of his life—better than Mikhail could have ever imagined. From the moment they kissed, Mik knew that as much as he couldn’t wait to be with Rowan, hewouldwait, however long he must, to be with him.
But from the moment Rowan had gone to sleep after their second go around, Mikhail had been trying to convince himself everything would be okay, but it hadn’t kept the panic at bay.
Mik was relieved that Rowan still continued to sleep since he wasn’t quite sure how to break the news he had for him. And that was why he was currently running like he was being chased on the treadmill at the gym. He had the treadmill on the highest interval setting, needing the push, hoping it would help him come up with a way to explain that the condom had broken.
What the fuck am I going to do now?
He thought of all the ways he could explain it to Rowan, but his brain came up blank. He even called his papa to confirm that he was right to be worried… and he was.
Mik wouldn’t have been so stressed out if it wasn’t for the fact that Ro was adamant that he wasn’t ready to mate. Mik didn’t want Rowan to feel pressured or obligated.
Mikhail kept pushing until the end of his workout, and when the treadmill came to a complete stop, he jumped off and grabbed the towel to wipe his face, then leaned his head back and sighed.
He’d already done a workout of over an hour and a half. There was no more stalling with the sun coming up. He had a feeling his mate wasn’t the type to sleep in.
He’d phoned down to the restaurant that they should deliver food to the room at eight, and it was almost time. As he took the lift upstairs, he said a prayer to the goddess that he was worrying for nothing, and that Rowan wouldn’t run from him again.
However, there was a pit in his stomach telling him that even though it was an amazing night, it was surely going to be soured the moment he explained everything to Rowan, once he told him the truth.
Maybe you can hide it from him for now?a voice whispered.
“Are you serious?” He spoke out loud to his conscience like it was another person in the lift with him.
How could everything have gone so pear-shaped, so fast?
What are the odds of anything happening? You haven’t officially mated yet, that same voice whispered.
Mikhail’s brain supplied images of all the curse words Ro would send flying his way. There was no way his mate would believe it was just a simple accident. Would he?
Mikhail didn’t break the condom on purpose. He would never. Those things just happened.
Try telling Ro that!
He groaned and then allowed his head to fall forward. In his head, he went through a couple of ways he could break the news to Rowan.
“Ro, I know that this is going to be the last thing you want to hear, but a little accident happened last night, and we might be parents soon. Yayyy!” The ‘yay’ was wishful thinking on his part. Who was he trying to convince? Ro wasn’t going to celebrate the news. “Rowan, first off, I really want to apologise because this is going to be the last thing you want to hear. Last night, the condom broke. I don’t know how it happened, but oops… it did. Ro, please don’t throw that lamp at my head.” The lamp throwing was definitely more likely than the ‘yay.'
When the lift dinged on his floor, unlike the day before when he’d been filled with excitement and possibilities, Mikhail felt like a condemned man on the way to the gallows. Every scenario ended with his mate walking out on him again.
The walk didn’t take as long as he would have liked, but at least when he arrived at his room, the server with a cart was just coming to a stop at his door.
Well, at least breakfast was on time. Not that it was much compensation, seeing as Rowan might not even want to stay after he told him.
Stop being so pessimistic.
“Perfect timing,” Mikhail managed a smile for the server.
“Thank you, sir.” The man smiled.
Mik opened the door to the suite and stepped in, then held it for the server to push the cart to the dining table.
“I will just set up your breakfast if you don’t mind, sir,” the man said and stood waiting at the small dining table.
“That will be fine.” Mikhail left him to it and walked into the bedroom to find Rowan still asleep, but with the cover almost off him.
