Mik turned to his mate “Um… I… I… Hmmmm…” He closed his mouth. Yeah, so he hadn’t exactly thought this through. And clearly he’d been wrong in his assumptions.
Mik turned to the two guys that had been focused on each other before to find their eyes locked on him.
“Oh my goddess. Is this him?” The alpha asked. Mikhail sniffed and realised they were shifters—was that fox? He stood up from the table and held out his hand.
Mikhail just stared at it, unsure how he should even respond.
“Mikhail,” Rowan prompted, “this is Zac.”
“Mikhail,” Rowan said again.
He looked over at Ro, completely ignoring the hand outstretched to him.
“Be nice.” His mate mouthed.
“Nice to meet you,” Zac said.
Mik turned back to face Zac, and that glimmer of recognition niggling the back of his mind returned as he finally took the man’s hand in a handshake. “Nice to meet you. I’m Mikhail.”
“Yes. We know,” Zac said, chuckling. He took his hand back from the handshake and pulled the smaller man over who had also got to his feet. “This one here is my mate.”
“Jay, nice to meet you.” He, too, held his hand out to Mikhail.
“Nice to meet you,” Mikhail said, shaking the omega’s hand. Something occurred to him, and he turned to Ro. “You’ve been talking about me?” he asked.
“Is that a serious question?” Zac’s tone was filled with amusement. “We got an earful, and as much as Rowan’s trying to deny, it’s obvious he’s smitten.”
Ro’s eyes shot daggers at Zac, and Mikhail watched as his mate’s cheeks reddened even as he glared at the alpha.
“Shut. Up,” Rowan hissed.
Zac smirked and Mik’s eyes lit up, not only from Zac’s words but also Rowan’s reaction.
He was just relieved that there was some hope for him when he thought it was all lost.
Rowan, who’d done his best to not let their gazes meet, finally looked at him and said, “I think we should talk.”
Mik couldn’t have responded any quicker. “I would like that.”
Ro nodded and then glanced over at Zac. “Thank you. Both of you, and it was lovely meeting you Jay.”
“You’re welcome” Jay smiled at him. “And likewise.”
“I’m glad you called,” Zac added. “Don’t be a stranger.”
Rowan nodded, then headed for the exit.
Mikhail simply nodded at the other couple. “Thank you.”
For some reason, he had a feeling they’d helped him out.
“You’re welcome.” Jay gave him an understanding smile.
“Don’t let him push you away,” Zac said, then snorted. “Never mind. I can see that you won’t.”
Mik nodded and quickly followed after his mate. He didn’t even care where they went. He was just happy that Rowan wanted to spend any time at all with him.
