“Thank you, Jean. Where is Jai, please?” He asked, handing his briefcase to her to put in his study.

“He retired early to the bedroom today. Back pains. The poor dear,” Jean said.

Nickolas’ brows furrowed, eyes darting towards the direction of the stairs in concern, “Is he okay? Contractions? Why didn’t he call me?” Nickolas asked.

“Jai insists he’s fine, and that he isn’t having contractions yet. But he was looking a little tired, so I sent him up to bed to rest.” Jean said.

“Thank you, Jean. I know you would have called if there was a problem.” Nickolas said as he made his way up the stairs needing to see Jai was fine with his own eyes.

He walked into their bedroom to find Jai asleep in bed, with a pinched look on his face.

Nickolas leaned in and placed a kiss on Jai’s forehead before heading to the walk in to change out of his work clothes. Once he changed into some comfortable grey sweats and a white t-shirt, he walked back into the bedroom to find Jai awake.

“When did you get in, babe?” Jai asked, his mouth open in a wide yawn.

“Not too long ago. Did I wake you?” Nickolas said, getting into bed and pulling Jai into his body as the little spoon.

“No, you didn’t.” Jai sighed, “I can’t really sleep for long with the back pain. It comes and goes, but it’s not fun. How was your day though?” Jai turned around so they were face to face, he lay on his side with his hands under his cheek, looking so young and beautiful to Nickolas.

“My day wasn’t half bad, babe. But I missed you and the babies,” Nickolas said, placing a kiss on Jai lips and rubbing his belly.

“We missed you too,” Jai said yawning.

“You’re tired, babe, let’s try and get you some sleep.” Nickolas urged, trying to get his worn-out looking omega to sleep for a while longer. “I’ll hold you all night if it helps, babe.”

Jai sighed again and kissed Nickolas before maneuvering his body slowly to face the other way so that Nickolas could hold him.

“Your babies need to come out now,” Jai muttered, “Or I’ll start charging them rent.”

Nickolas snorted, but knew better than to reply anything else but, “Yes, babe.” Jai sighed and went back to sleep, and Nickolas held his small family, watching over them, keeping them safe. Plus, it was like seven in the evening, way too early for him to go to bed.

But if it helped his omega sleep, hewouldhold him all night.

As he held Jai, he said a prayer to the gods that his omega went through the delivery safely, and that nothing happened to him, because Nickolas wasn’t sure what he would do if he ever lost Jai. The thought had him tightening his arm around his omega drawing him closer.

Losing him so soon after finally finding him, and discovering what their future could be like, would tear him apart. It took ages before he could fall asleep, but his dreams were only more vivid images of his worst nightmares. He definitely should not have read the book on pregnancy. And he certainly shouldn’t have flipped to the pages on complications that could happen with twin pregnancies.
